But military expert Uzeyir Cafarli says that the upcoming visit is „noteworthy“ and „not a routine one.“ He says Iran is one of the leading countries in the region and that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to bilateral military cooperation.

Die wirtschaftliche Krise und die internationalen Sanktionen wirken im gesamten Iran und die letzten Tage haben gezeigt, dass nicht nur bei den Basarhändlern sondern auch in Fabriken und anderen Betrieben gestreikt wird. Die Regierung will die lange Zeit immer wieder hinausgezögerte Abschaffung der Subventionen nun nächsten Monat umsetzen und hat Angst vor der Reaktion der Bevölkerung. Um die Menschen abzuschrecken, veranstaltet die Regierung in jeder Stadt des Landes, vor allem aber in Teheran, regelmässig Manöver, wie sie auf den folgenden Bildern zu sehen sind.

Iran opposition leader calls for referendum on Ahmadinejad policies

Iranian opposition leader Mir-Hossein Moussavi called for a referendum to clarify whether the people would continue to support the policies of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, opposition websites reported Tuesday.

Manche Menschen sind einsam. Manche großen Führer auch. Ganz besonders einsam sind die Führer des Sozialismus des 21. Was liegt also näher für die großen Führer als sich wieder einmal gegenseitig zu besuchen und tief in die Augen zu schauen? Warum, werden sich diese großen Führer fragen, warum liegen nur Meere und Kontinente zwischen uns? Warum leben wir nicht auf dem schönen Planeten des Sozialismus des 21. Jahrhunderts und wohnen Balkon an Balkon?

According to Iranian Women’s News Agency (IWNA) Mehdi Esmaeeli, the Deputy to Governor of Isfahan in Security and Political affairs, discussed plans for design and mass production of a special Islamic bicycle for women. He said: „Riding bicycle for women, if it is done to attract attentions, is against Islamic norms … But there are health benefits and we cannot only prohibit women from doing things … So we are designing biking provisions for women, such as specially designed bicycles.“

Mr. Esmaeeli did not elaborate on how the new design would mask or block attention to the woman riding the bicycle, but he pointed out to other provisions: „Naturally covered and hidden paths around the Zayandehrood river in Isfahan and closed paths are considered for this purpose.“

Die Freundschaft zwischen Moskau und Teheran geht zu Ende:

[D]ozens of Russian nuclear engineers, technicians and contractors are hurriedly departing Iran for home since local intelligence authorities began rounding up their compatriots as suspects of planting the Stuxnet malworm into their nuclear program. Among them are the Russian personnel who built Iran’s first nuclear reactor at Bushehr which Tehran admits has been damaged by the virus.
One of the Russian nuclear staffers, questioned in Moscow Sunday, Oct. 3 by Western sources, confirmed that many of his Russian colleagues had decided to leave with their families after team members were detained for questioning at the beginning of last week. He refused to give his name because he and his colleagues intend to return to Iran if the trouble blows over and the detainees are quickly released after questioning.

Wiesenthal Center: Boycott Royal Dutch Shell on Iran trade

The Simon Wiesenthal Center called last week for a boycott of Royal Dutch Shell gas stations because of the energy company’s increased import of Iranian crude oil.

“We urge the public to avoid Shell gas stations and give their business to companies that honor sanctions. Until Shell publicly announces the cancellation of further crude oil purchases from Iran, all who are concerned for world peace and human rights should leave Shell products on the shelf,” said Dr. Shimon Samuels, head of the Wiesenthal Center’s International Relations section.

Iranian state-controlled television has accused Facebook and Twitter of being Iran’s “hidden enemies” and tools used by Western intelligence agencies in order to recruit new members and gather data on individuals. The segment starts with a short biography of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, but then goes on to say that the website is social only in appearance. According to the report: “The aim of Facebook is to identify people for special operations for Western spying agencies.”

Ebrahim Yazdi verhaftet

Der iranische Oppositionsführer Ebrahim Yazdi ist laut der amtlichen Nachrichtenagentur Irna festgenommen worden. Irna berichtete, der Vorsitzende der Bewegung für die Befreiung Irans sei in Isfahan im Zentrum des Landes verhaftet worden. Zur selben Zeit seien weitere Verantwortliche der Partei in Haft genommen worden. Der 80-Jährige war bereits während der Proteste nach der Wiederwahl von Präsident Ahmadinejad im Sommer vergangenen Jahres in Gewahrsam genommen worden. Er kam anschliessend gegen Kaution frei. Die Bewegung für die Befreiung Irans ist offiziell verboten. Yazdi war kurz nach der islamischen Revolution 1979 Aussenminister.

Moskau not amused

Russia has prohibited Iranian investments in any commercial activities involving uranium production or use of nuclear material and technology, the Interfax news agency reported on Thursday.

The decree was issued by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev last Wednesday to comply with the U.N. Security Council resolution No. 1929.
