Germany’s Hostages in Iran, and “Critical Dialogue” with the Mullahs

Germany’s journalists, human rights activists, and taxpayers are paying a painful price for its country’s woefully flawed “critical dialogue” policy with the Iranian regime.

Last month, Iran’s rulers paraded two German journalists, Marcus Hellwig and Jens Koch of the Bild newspaper, on an Iranian state-controlled television station, claiming that the two journalists admitted to being hoodwinked into travelling to Iran by Mina Ahadi, a German-Iranian human rights activist.

Ahadi, who lives in exile in Germany, is leading an international campaign against stoning in the Islamic Republic. She is deeply aware of the critical situation of the two journalists, saying, „They have been in prison for a month…no contact with their family, no phone contact, only once have German diplomats visited these journalists. They are under pressure.“

Both journalists were arrested in Iran in mid-October for merely interviewing family members of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, a woman who was sentenced death by stoning for alleged adultery.

This is only the latest chapter in the Iranian regime’s history of doing what it can to crush dissent domestically and at the same time force Western European countries to recoil from their human rights criticisms of Iran’s ruthless behavior.

Jordanian King looks to improve ties with Iran

Bisher eher distanziert, will Jordaniens König Abdullah II sich Teheran zuwenden:

Abdullah made the appeal for better ties during a meeting with Esfandiar Rahim Mashai, the director of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s office, according to an official Jordanian statement. It said Abdullah was invited to visit Teheran.
As early as 2004, Abdullah warned of Iran’s growing influence in Iraq and the rest of the region.
In US cables released by WikiLeaks, US diplomats were quoted as saying Jordan warned that Iranian influence could undermine American interests and moderate nations like Jordan, an ally of the US.

Ein etwas anderer Ayatollah

The name of Iranian ayatollah Seyyed Hossein Kazemeyni Boroujerdi is little known outside his own country, which is unfortunate. Ayatollah Boroujerdi has been held in Tehran’s notorious Evin prison since 2006.

Boroujerdi, aged 50, is an heir to a distinguished Shia clerical family. He was born in Tehran and educated in the Shia religious center of Qom. Like his father, Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Mohammad Ali Kazemeyni Boroujerdi (1924-2002), Boroujerdi preaches the pre-Khomeini interpretation of Iranian Shiism, which calls for religion to be kept apart from politics. His health has been badly affected by the conditions of his imprisonment, yet he has continued, from his cell, to denounce the regime of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Unlike the competing clerics who challenged the ruling duo in last year’s challenged balloting, Boroujerdi has become a consistent champion of secularism. He has declared, “the regime is adamant that either people adhere to political Islam or be jailed, exiled or killed. Its behavior is no different from that of Osama bin Laden or Mullah Omar.”

In November, according to the Iranian blog Voice of Freedom, which serves as a global forum for the Boroujerdi case, five of Boroujerdi’s female supporters and one male acolyte were arrested – for the fourth time. Their names also deserve to be known: Sayyedeh Tayebeh Husseini, Narges Ghaffarzadeh, Roya Araghi, Maryam Azimi, Forogh Hematyar, and Mohammad Reza Sadeghi. In the first week of December, the conditions under which the six were held were unknown to their supporters within and beyond Iran’s borders. On December 6, another Boroujerdi partisan, Mohammad Mehman-Nazad, 39-years-old, was arrested and disappeared into the void of Iran’s repressive system.

Boroujerdi and his group have lately issued a message to the world’s Jews, congratulating them on the Hanukkah holiday. Their knowledge of Jewish customs may be faulty – their statement confused Hanukkah, the Feast of Lights commemorating the liberation of the Jewish Temple from foreign dominance by the Maccabean revolt some 23 centuries ago with the Jewish New Year, or Rosh Hashanah, which fell during September of this year. But their sentiments were manifestly sincere and clearly repudiated the anti-Jewish demagogy of Ahmadinejad.

Die von einem Polizisten geschlagene Exil-Iranerin bleibt mit Verdacht auf Bruch der Lendenwirbelsäule im Krankenhaus. Am Freitag war bei einer Demonstration in Zehlendorf offenbar ein Beamter gezielt auf die 57-Jährige losgegangen.

Mottaki muß gehen

Die Haaretz meldet:

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad fired his foreign minister on Monday and appointed the country’s top nuclear official as the caretaker for the key position, the official IRNA news agency reported.

„I appreciate your diligence and services as the foreign minister,“ Ahmadinejad said in a letter to Manouchehr Mottaki, IRNA reported.

Ahmadinejad appointed head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization Ali Akbar Salehi, a close ally to the president, as the caretaker for the ministry, state television reported.

A reformist website said Mottaki had been critical of Ahmadinejad’s policies.

„Mottaki failed to adjust himself to the president’s view points and his foreign policy,“ the Mardomsalari website reported.

Teheran – Mashad, Made in Germany

Representatives from Iran’s public and private sectors will travel to Germany soon to seal the deal for Tehran-Mashhad magnetic levitation train project.

Ali Koohestanian added that next Monday inspectors from Iran will fly to Frankfurt to test the maglev trains for this project, which will be the largest railway project of its kind in the world.

The permanent representative for foreign investments in Tehran-Mashhad maglev train project added that after lengthy negotiations the two sides have reached an initial agreement and the German firm will soon travel to Iran to implement the scheme with the help of Iranian companies.

Deutsche Polizisten schützen die Faschisten

Verletzte bei einer Kundgebung gegen das Mullahregime:

Arash hat einen Nasenbeinbruch erlitten und muß nächste Woche operiet werden, Masoud hat Prelungen an den Armen und Beinen erlitten und wurde am rechten Bein behandelt, Soheyla hat sich den vierten Wirbel gebrochen und liegt noch im Krankenhaus. Insgesamt sind 7 Leute im Krankenhaus behandelt worden und alles ist attestiert. Bald werden die Verletzten die Atteste fotografieren und im facebook stellen.

Die Demonstration, die hier beschrieben wurde, fand nicht im Iran statt, sondern in Berlin. Die Schläger waren keine Bassiji, sondern deutsche Polizisten, die dem Wunsch eines iranischen Diplomaten nachkamen, ein Transparent demonstrierender Exiliraner mit der Aufschrift Down with the Islamic Republic zu entfernen. Ob die Cops durch die Anbiederungsversuche deutscher Politiker an das Mullahregime zu ihrem rabiaten Vorgehen ermuntert wurden, ist nicht bekannt.

„Nieder mit der islamischen Republik“

Die B. Z. meldet:

Vor der iranischen Botschaft hatten Demo-Teilnehmer gegen Menschenrechtsverletzungen demonstriert. Dabei gab es Ärger wegen eines Transparents. Auf dem Plakat, das an Absperrgittern in der Podbielskiallee befestigt war, stand: „Nieder mit der islamischen Republik Iran“. Ein Botschaftsangehöriger stellte deshalb beim Polizei-Einsatzleiter Strafantrag wegen Beleidigung.

Nachdem der Demo-Leiter sich geweigert hatte, das Transparent abzunehmen zu lassen, wollten Polizisten es sicherstellen. Dabei wurden sie aus der Menge heraus angegriffen. Bei dem Gerangel erlitten zwei Beamte Verletzungen an Hals und Kopf. Sie wurden vor Ort von Sanitätern verarztet.

Die Polizei nahm vier Demonstranten fest. Der Staatsschutz hat die Ermittlungen übernommen. Auch die Rechtmäßigkeit der Polizei-Maßnahmen soll dabei überprüft werden. Denn noch sei es nicht sicher, ob die Transparent-Aufschrift überhaupt einen Straftatbestand erfüllt.

Noch sei es nicht sicher, ob … Toll.

Die jungen Iraner träumen den amerikanischen Traum

Antiamerikanismus ist den Iranern per Verfassung vorgeschrieben. Das geschlossene Herrschaftssystem der Mullahs bedarf der mythischen Feindschaft zu den USA, um sein politisches Überleben zu sichern. Die Jugend des Landes indes ist für eine offene Gesellschaft und huldigt der amerikanischen Pop-Kultur und ihren Träumen.

Nein, die Nachricht über eine Freilassung Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtianis klang auch einfach zu schön, um wahr zu sein. Kann sich bösartiger Wahn plötzlich gutartig zeigen? Es ist wie mit einem tollwütigen Hund, der plötzlich vertraulich näher kommt.

Sie haben also wieder ein Spiel gespielt. Und, nein, sie sind für nichts zu pervers. Die „Justiz“ der „Islamischen Republik Iran“ inszeniert mit Hilfe ihres Propagandasenders Press TV den „Fall“ Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani als eine Art Doku-soap mit Originaldarstellern.

Contrary to a vast publicity campaign by Western media that confessed murderer Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani has been released, a team of broadcast production team with the Iran-based Press TV has arranged with Iran’s judicial authorities to follow Ashtiani to her house to produce a visual recount of the crime at the murder scene.

Press TV’s „Iran Today“ program, will shed light on the highways and byways of the murder account with multiple interviews with people and individuals involved in the case.

Sajjad Asgharzadeh, Sakineh’s son, and her lwayer Hootan Kian are among the individuals that have spoken to the production team.

Earlier on Thursday, some western media outlets claimed that Ashtiani has been released from prison.

Der Iran ist immer noch die zur Zeit größte Bedrohung der Weltgemeinschaft. Das haben ja auch jetzt die Wikileaks-Enthüllungen gezeigt. Leider ist es wahrscheinlich schädlich, dass das publik wurde, was da an Bemühungen hinter den Kulissen lief, das Regime zu schwächen. Wenn dieser Ahmadinedschad, der an die Rückkehr des Mahdis glaubt und sich am Ende selbst als Vollstrecker sieht – wenn der im Besitz der Atombombe ist, und er steht ja kurz davor, dann ist mit allem zu rechnen.

Breaking News? Kommt Sakineh Mohammadi-Ashtiani frei?

AFP meldet unter Berufung auf Mina Ahadi und es klingt eigentlich zu überraschend und gut um wahr zu sein:

Iran has freed a woman sentenced to death by stoning for adultery, her son, and her lawyer, a German-based campaign group told AFP Thursday after global outcry over the case.„We have got news from Iran that they are free,“ Mina Ahadi, spokeswoman for the Anti-Stoning Committee, told AFP.“We are waiting for another confirmation: apparently there will be a programme this evening on (Iranian) television and then we will be 100 percent sure.“There was no immediate confirmation from Tehran. A spokesman from the German foreign ministry also said: „We cannot confirm the news.“

Der iranische Propagandasender Press TV hat heute abend Aufnahmen von Ashtiani und ihrem Sohn im heimischen Wohnzimmer gebracht. Was die Bilder genau bedeuten ist noch nicht klar, vermutlich eine Bewegung im Fall Ashtiani und zugleich ein neuer Propagadacoup; Schnipsel eines „Geständnisses“ waren auch zu sehen. German activists are raising an outcry over what they characterize as a growing „offensive of promoting German-Iran relations“ on the part of German politicians and businesspeople that they believe is undercutting hard-won gains in the cooperative EU and U.S. effort to isolate Iran’s government via sanctions.

Members of Stop the Bomb, a coalition of German intellectuals dedicated to preventing Iran from attaining nuclear weapons, protested a November 22 meeting of the Iran Business Forum, a business networking group that hosted numerous Iranian officials at a Courtyard Marriott Hotel in Hamburg, Germany. Iranian Ambassador to Germany Ali Reza Sheikh Attar, a close confidant of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and a member of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, which has been designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department, reportedly gave the event’s opening speech, according to the event program.
