Am 7. März 1979, wenige Wochen nach dem Umsturz im Iran, befahl Ayatollah Khomeini, dass Frauen iranische staatliche Einrichtungen nur noch mit Kopftuch betreten dürften. Daraufhin kam es im Zuge des Internationalen Frauentages am 8. März zu zahlreichen Demonstrationen gegen die Zwangsverschleierung. Die Islamisten mussten daraufhin ihr Dekret vorläufig zurücknehmen.

Iranian Kurdish Parties Call For Uprising

Trying to use the momentum caused by the protests in the region, Iranian Kurdish opposition parties have issued statements asking their supporters to take to the streets.

Omar Balaki, another top KDPI leader, told Rudaw the Kurds “should not let this historic opportunity fizzle out. We predict that the storm of protests currently raging around the Middle East region will soon reach the Islamic Republic of Iran and people will rise up against the regime.”

Ahmedinejad, der Nationalist

In a speech in Shiraz, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that the works of Hafez and Saadi, two of the greatest poets in Iranian history, are as valuable as the art of all other nations combined. While Ahmadinejad was speaking, a group of workers gathered outside to protest the nonpayment of their wages and retirement pensions.

Since last year, Ahmadinejad has turned himself into a nationalist, speaking regularly about Iran’s culture and history and the „Iranian school of thought“ as opposed to Islamic thinking, which has angered religious conservatives. In related news, Mohammad Nabi Habibi, secretary-general of the Islamic Coalition Party, said that putting the Iranian school of thought against Islamic thinking is what the prerevolutionary regime of the Shah used to do.

Streikwelle im Iran

Rooz berichtet:

Following the labor strikes at Abadan’s oil refinery and municipality, the unrest has arrived in Tehran and Tabriz and months of unpaid wages to workers at Kian Tire Company and the lack of official employment at the Tabriz Petrochemical Plant has resulted in workers strikes in the two plants.

Analysts say that this wave of protests is the result of economic pressures stemming from the recent government lifting of subsidies and believe that these are the first sparks that link political and labor protests.

In the post-election conflict, this could be a significant statement. It comes from Grand Ayatollah Mousavi Ardebili, who declared yesterday:

Without a doubt the experience of the Iranian nation over the past 30 years can be a strong basis for lessons to be taught to the popular movements [in the Middle East]….It is regrettable and sad, however, that what is done by some in the name of defending Islam and Islamic government is against the religion, the law, morality, and human rights, and threatens the spirit of justice, search for the truth, and freedom that must be the basis for any government that is based on Islamic teachings.

No Islamic law allows insults and baseless accusations against any person or any group, even if guilt has been proven in a just court. But under the current conditions in the country, we witness that making insults and baseless accusations is becoming a common and widespread process. All sorts of people, with or without authority, allow themselves to insult persons and groups fearlessly and with impunity, without the guilt [of the accused] being proven in a qualified court and sentence decided by it, prosecuting them in advance and even issuing verdicts, while they see themselves as immune from the consequences of such actions. Undoubtedly, this hazard is a fire that, if not controlled, will spread and not only shake the people’s trust, but also create chaos in the society and a dark outlook.

Green Zone Teheran …

It seems like the regime is creating a „Green Zone“ — my sarcastic reference to the green zone in Baghdad — in central Tehran. To the north is Motahari Boulevard (formerly Takht-e Tavous) and Fatemi Avenue (Aryamehr); to the east, Imam Hossein Square (Fouzieh); to the south, Imam Khomeini Avenue (ex Sepah), around the presidential palace as well as Mr. Mousavi’s home; and finally, to the west, Azadi Square (formerly Shahyad). This is the area where the Green Movement took over for a while with their chants of „Death to the dictator,“ and the new joint slogan, „Ya Hossein, Mir Hossein; Ya Mahdi, Sheik Mahdi,“ which infuse the names of the modern leaders of the Green Movement with Shia symbolism.

Last night the Green Zone was completely blacked out communication-wise.

Iran – Libyen

The West should show the same moral clarity against Tehran’s human-rights abuses as it has against Gadhafi’s.

While the world focuses on Libya’s popular uprising and Moammar Gadhafi’s murderous response, Iran has also—far from the international spotlight—been ratcheting up its repression. In the last few days, Tehran has moved to arrest the two leading figures of Iran’s opposition, Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, and has reportedly transferred them from house arrest to a political prison run by the Revolutionary Guard Corps. Mass protests have erupted again, in open defiance of the regime, and are spreading far beyond Tehran.

But Iran’s rulers already showed in 2009 that they take no chances and no prisoners when it comes to shielding themselves from their people’s wrath. Another bloodbath now is not hard to imagine.

Western democracies have been quick to condemn Gadhafi, and have passed a number of measures against him and his regime since Tripoli’s crackdown began. By contrast, Iran’s violent political repression is only part of the latest, gory wave that has been ongoing for more than a year and a half, and yet there appears no urgency in the West to adopt human-rights sanctions against Tehran.

Iran’s opposition coalition, the Coordination Council of the Green Path of Hope, has called on people to join next Tuesday’s protests for women’s rights on International Women’s Day.

In its fifth announcement published on Kaleme website, the Council said it is co-operating closely with women’s rights activists in advance of March 8 and it welcomes the transformation of these protests into a demand for the release of Zahra Rahnavard, Fatemeh Karroubi and their spouses, the opposition leaders MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi.

The Coordination Council of the Green Path of Hope, which has taken over organizing protests following the house arrest of the Iranian opposition leaders, had called on people to rally every Tuesday leading up to the Iranian New Year on March 21, to protest the detention of the Mousavi and Karroubi households.

Dringender Appell für die sofortige Freilassung von Houtan Kian

Die Hinrichtung von Sakineh Ashtianis Anwalt steht unmittelbar bevor

Laut jüngsten Meldungen vom Internationalen Komitee gegen Steinigungen und Hinrichtungen hat die Justiz der Islamischen Republik Iran Houtan Kian zu vier aufeinanderfolgenden Todesstrafen verurteilt! Drei davon sind aufgehoben worden, aber die vierte, die eine Hinrichtung durch erhängen sein wird, soll ausgeführt werden. Herr Kian wurde informiert, dass dieses Urteil umgehend durchgeführt werden wird.

Houtan Kian ist am 10. Oktober 2010 zusammen mit zwei deutschen Reportern und dem Sohn von Sakineh Ashtiani, Sajjad Ghaderzadeh, verhaftet worden. Zunächst war er im Gefängnis in Täbris, Iran und wurde später in Abteilung 209 des berüchtigten Evin Gefängnis in Teheran, Iran gebracht. Unsere letzten Nachrichten von Herrn Kian sind, dass er lange und schwer gefoltert wurde, und dass sein Körper von Prellungen und Verbrennungen durch Zigaretten gezeichnet ist. Er ist wieder in das Gefängnis in Täbris gebracht worden, wo seine Hinrichtung geplant wird.

Die Mutter von Herrn Kian, die in den USA lebt, hält sich momentan im Iran auf, um die Freilassung ihres Sohnes zu unterstützen. Ihr wurde verboten mit Journalisten zu sprechen und den Iran zu verlassen. Ihr Ehemann, Houtans Vater, wurde 1981 vom iranischen Regime hingerichtet.

In einem kürzlich nach der Freilassung der zwei deutschen Reporter veröffentlichten Statement hat die Islamische Republik Houtan Kian für schuldig erklärt, und den Urteilsspruch für den vierten Inhaftierten, Herrn Kian, bestätigt.

Herr Kian ist Anwalt. Er steht für alle politischen Gefangenen, die im Iran zum Tode verurteilt sind. Seine berühmteste Mandantin ist Sakineh Ashtiani.

Wir fordern alle Menschenrechtsorganisationen, auf nationaler und internationaler Ebene, ebenso wie alle Organisationen und Einzelpersonen, die aktiv geholfen haben, Sakinehs Freilassung durchzusetzen, dazu auf, dringend an das iranische Regime zu appellieren, Houtan Kian und Sakineh Ashtiani sofort freizulassen.

Verhaftungen, die partout keine sein dürfen

Die neueste Linie der iranischen Propaganda läßt fast schon Mitleid mit den Konstrukteuren dieser virtuellen Realität aufkommen; nach den Demonstrationen des Dienstags – den dritten in Folge – behauptet das Regime nun störrisch, die Verhaftung Karrubis und Moussavis sei eine Erfindung der Volksmuhdschahedin, die beiden ehemaligen Präsidentschaftskandidaten von 2009 wohnten weiterhin zu Hause.

Zwei Verhaftungen und die Folgen. Was passiert heute im Iran? Passiert etwas? LiveBlog bei Dissected News:

Bold statements from the opposition. Mojtaba Vahedi, advisor to Mehdi Karroubi and the opposition, said that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the Supreme Leader, was instrumental in the decision to arrest Mir Hossein Mousavi, Zahra Rahnavard, and Mehdi and Fatemeh Karroubi. Vahedi also said that the head of Iran’s judiciary, Sadeq Larijani, disagreed with the decision but was overruled by the Supreme Leader.

What does this mean? For me, the biggest takeaway is that the opposition is getting far bolder in its statements. This is one step away from accusing Khamenei of breaking the law. It will be interesting to see if anyone associated with Larijani denies his objections to this decision.

Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has told journalists in Geneva, „There is absolutely no comparison between what is happening in the countries in the region and what has happened in Iran in a few incidents.“ He declared that Iran had only experienced a few „manipulated protests, while mass movements in the nations in the region are authentic, popular and people’s movements“.

Salehi said his government was „shocked“ by Libyan leader Moammar Qaddafi’s resort to force against civilians and hoped that „the power is transferred through legal means to the people“.
