Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is showing signs that he is worried by recent developments in Syria, where anti-government protests are threatening Bashar Assad’s grip on power.

Ahmadinejad accused the West on Monday of causing instability across the Middle East, and in Syria in particular, to bolster Israel’s standing, Iranian state television reported.

According to Reuters, the Iranian leader told reporters that the Western countries „want to save the Zionist regime (Israel) by interference in the region aimed at creating discord among the regional nations and governments.“

Hilft Deutschland plötzlich nicht mehr?

Was zeichnet die Außenpolitik der Bundesregierung aus? Große Visionen, weitreichendes strategisches Bewußtsein, konsequentes Handeln? Oder nicht doch mehr so hilf- wie steuerloser Opportunismus? Und wenn gar nichts mehr geht: Aktionismus.

Da müssen  die deutschen Medien zum Jagen getragen werden, monatelang interessiert sich in Deutschland niemand für den Ölabrechnungsdeal mit dem Iran, Thema wird das wohl nur,  weil sich Westerwelle mit der UN-Resolution zu Libyen so gründlich verrechnet hat, und zum Abschuß ansteht.

Und da er nurmehr ein Gnadenbrot als Außenminister verzehren darf, scheint sich plötzlich etwas zu bewegen.  Ein Wunder? Woher kommt die Erleuchtung? Sehr souverän wirkt diese Entscheidung Angela Merkels nicht gerade, das hätte Monate früher kommen müssen. Aber immerhin…

Deutschland will künftig nicht mehr als Drehscheibe für indische Öl-Lieferzahlungen an den Iran dienen. „Für Öl, das schon geliefert wurde, wird noch bezahlt“, erklärten hochrangige Regierungskreise dem Handelsblatt. Neue Geschäfte aber unter Einschaltung der Deutschen Bundesbank dürfe es nicht mehr geben. „Die Bundesbank“, so ein Vertrauter von Kanzlerin Angela Merkel, „wurde entsprechend angewiesen.“ (Handelsblatt)

The Islamic Republic’s brutal crackdown on the peaceful protests, coupled with the West’s strategic and moral inaction, gave Iranians no choice but to leave the streets and return to the misery of the status quo, their hopes shattered. According to the Human Rights House of Iran, the regime has arrested more than 1,250 people over the past year for demonstrating or for their political views. But as popular revolts have swept across the Middle East, Iranians have been reinvigorated, participating in the largest demonstrations since summer 2009, albeit on a lesser scale than elsewhere in the region.

Iranians have gained inspiration from the revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia and protestors have been heard chanting “Mubarak, Ben Ali, by the new year Sayyed Ali!” referring to their own supreme leader, Sayyed Ali Khamenei. The revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt, like the crises in Libya and other Arab countries, have allowed Iran to fade from people’s consciousness, and for the regime to escape scrutiny. (…)

The Arab Spring is unlikely to morph into a Persian Summer given the significant differences between Iran and Tunisia and Egypt. However, we in the West should offer as much moral encouragement as possible to all those who desire and are working for freedom.

Nun regen ausgerechnet die Grünen sich auf, deren große Vorsitzende Claudia Roth im letzten Jahr noch so brav in Teheran Männchen gemacht hat – und dann sorgen ausgerechnet sie sich um die Entfremdung Deutschlands, während der Kanzler von Rot-Grün den Ayatollahs den Berater macht:

Die deutsche Hilfe bei einem iranischen Ölgeschäft wirft viele Fragen auf – und die Opposition verlangt Antworten. Die Bundesregierung müsse „endlich alle Fakten dieses zweifelhaften Deals auf den Tisch legen“, forderten der Grünen-Finanzpolitiker Gerhard Schick und der Sicherheitsexperte der Partei, Omid Nouripour, am Freitag in einer gemeinsam Erklärung gegenüber SPIEGEL ONLINE. Schick und Nouripour warfen Außenminister Guido Westerwelle (FDP) vor, „die Entfremdung Deutschlands von den USA“ befördert und Deutschland einmal mehr isoliert zu haben.

Several months ago, I was informed by my contacts in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard that the Basij had started work on a film that had the approval of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The purpose of the project: to inform Muslims across the globe of the immediate coming of the last Islamic messiah. As my English translation of the film makes clear (watch it exclusively at PJTV), the Iranian leaders, now more than ever, feel that all the stars are aligned for such event.

For decades, Germany has served as the Islamic Republic’s largest trading partner on the European continent. Despite Berlin’s public support of sanctions against Iran, the government feels it is in Germany’s interest to facilitate these types of transactions, with the result that Germany has long been willing to allow its financial system to be abused to help Iran promote its terror agenda.

Germany allows blacklisted banks to openly operate and transact business in Hamburg and Frankfurt. The Melli, Mellat, and Sepah banks and EIH have all been blacklisted for proliferating weapons of mass destruction by the US Treasury, and all but EIH have also been subject to UN restrictions for their role in Iran’s nuclear program. In addition, two of EIH’s main shareholders, Bank Mellat and Bank Refah, are under European Union and American sanctions.

Das umstrittene Engagement der Bundesbank bei einem Ölgeschäft zwischen Iran und Indien hat womöglich eine größere politische Brisanz als bisher bekannt. Wie es in Regierungskreisen in Berlin heißt, soll der Deal im Zusammenhang mit der Freilassung zweier Reporter der „Bild am Sonntag“ aus iranischer Haft im Februar dieses Jahres stehen. Demnach soll die Bundesregierung die Hilfe der deutschen Zentralbank bei der iranisch-indischen Transaktion im Gegenzug für die Freilassung der beiden Deutschen gebilligt haben.

Turkey has informed the UN Security Council’s Iran sanctions committee that it seized a cache of weapons Iran was attempting to export in breach of a UN arms embargo, according to a document obtained by Reuters on Thursday. The weapons, which were listed as „auto spare parts“ on the plane’s documents, were bound for Aleppo, Syria, through Turkish airspace. A search of the Iranian „YasAir Cargo Airlines“ Ilyushin-76 revealed a number of „prohibited military items“ – 60 Kalashnikov AK-47 assault rifles, 14 BKC/Bixi machine guns, nearly 8,000 rounds of BKC/AK-47 ammunition, 560 60-mm mortar shells, and 1,288 120-mm mortar shells.
