Iran has become the leading case of failed attempted accommodation. Obama has made it abundantly clear through a variety of public and private messages that he is willing to negotiate in earnest over Iran’s nuclear weapons program. Iran is obviously not interested. The only notable responses forthcoming from Tehran have been downright mendacious, misleading, and uncompromising. The current U.S. strategy of outreach and accommodation has had almost three years to draw some sort of minimally constructive response from Iran, and it has not worked.
The Iranian regime has secretively executed a Kurdish political prisoner named Eziz Xakzad although his sentence had been reduced to five years and his family and his lawyer weren’t informed of the execution.
According to the news of human rights defenders’ news portal Hrana, 29-year old Eziz Xakzade, who was arrested in 2007 and sentenced with death penalty by Xoy Revolutionary Court on charges of „waging war against God“ and “aiding a Kurdish party”, was secretly hanged in Kerman central prison in the morning of October 4th.
A strike at the Imam Khomeini port in the oil rich province of Khuzestan began on September 24th, and workers are continuing to maintain picket lines and hold rallies. This is just one of many strikes taking place across the country and involving over six and a half thousand petrochemical workers.
According to official government figures, there has been a 5% percent fall in the country’s petrochemical production in recent months, a factor that has increased economic pressure on the industry’s workforce.
The strikers want to be employed directly by the government, instead of by subcontractors and other private firms that currently act as a buffer between them and the industry’s management. They have also called for an increase in salaries and bonuses. So far three workers’ representatives have been arrested, leading to angry condemnation of the government from their fellows. When management threatened to sack workers who refused to go back to work, strikers reacted by setting up a crisis committee in order to ensure a swift response should such threats be carried out.
This strike differs from previous industrial action in that it is concerned, not just with economic demands, but also with political ones, such as establishing the right to strike. It would seem that the Iranian working class is no longer on the defensive.

Iranians who fled their country after converting to Christianity have received death threats in their new homes overseas, according to the religious rights group Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW).
At least eleven Iranian Christians reported receiving emails in September calling on them to “repent and ask forgiveness from the presence of the Hidden Imam,” and warning that if they failed to do so, “according to the Fatwa given by Mehdi… they must be killed.”
Christian leaders in Iran told CSW that they are taking the threat seriously. There is reason to believe the threats sent to Iranians overseas may be coming from a group linked to Iran’s security forces, they said.

Chávez lädt vom Iran freigelassene US-Bürger nach Venezuela ein
Der venezolanische Präsident Hugo Chávez hat die vom Iran freigelassenen US-Bürger Shane Bauer und Josh Fattal in das südamerikanische Land eingeladen. Die beiden seit zwei Jahren im Iran wegen Spionage inhaftierten US-Wanderer waren am Mittwoch (21.) auch Dank der Vermittlung von Venezuela aus dem Teheraner Evin-Gefängnis entlassen worden.
“Ich hatte dem Präsidenten vom Iran eine Botschaft geschickt und bat ihn den Fall zu überprüfen. Dies tat ich respektvoll, da man sich nicht in die inneren Angelegenheiten eines Staates einmischen soll”, so der bolivarische Führer. “Wenn dies zur Freilassung geholfen hat, dann bin ich sehr, sehr glücklich”, gab das Staatsoberhaupt im Miraflores Palast in Caracas bekannt.

Kairo (RPO). Das Terrornetzwerk Al Qaida hat Äußerungen des iranischen Präsidenten Mahmud Ahmadinedschad, wonach die US-Regierung für die Anschläge vom 11. September verantwortlich sei, als „lächerlich“ zurückgewiesen. Diese Vorstellung widerspreche jeder Logik und allen Beweisen, hieß es in einem am Mittwoch in Al Qaidas englischsprachigen Online-Magazin „Inspire“ veröffentlichten Artikel.
