Aktivitäten iranischer Diplomaten in Deutschland

Etliche Leute, die aus Iran stammen und in Deutschland leben, haben kürzlich eine ganz besondere E-Mail zugeschickt bekommen. Ausgerechnet im “Namen Gottes des Barmherzigen” wird darin auf das Urteil wegen Ketzerei gegen Najafi aufmerksam gemacht. Von einer “Beleidigung der Heiligkeiten des schiitischen Glaubens” ist die Rede. Der Musiker wird wörtlich als “Verdammter” bezeichnet.

iner der Empfänger sagt, er habe diese E-Mail von einem Angestellten des iranischen Generalkonsulats in München erhalten. Der Name des Absenders steht in der Mail, die der Süddeutschen Zeitung vorliegt. Es handelt sich um eine zuvor über Tage hinweg mehrmals weitergeleitete Mail, was zu der Annahme führt, dass dieser elektronische Brief systematisch an zahlreiche in Deutschland lebende Iraner gesendet wurde. Zweite Todesfatwa

Gegen den in Deutschland lebenden iranischen Rapper Shahin Najafi ist ein zweites Todesdekret erlassen worden. Großajatollah Nasser Makarem Schirasi habe die Fatwa ausgesprochen, meldete der Nachrichtendienst Tabnak. Schon in der vergangenen Woche hatte Großajatollah Lotfollah Safi-Golpaygani gegen den 31-Jährigen ein Todesdekret erlassen, weil dieser in einem seiner Songs den zehnten Imam der schiitischen Muslime beleidigt haben soll.

Irans Großayatollah Safi-Golpayegani erließ eine Todes-Fatwa gegen den in Deutschland lebenden Sänger Shahin Najafi, wie die iranische Nachrichtenagentur FARS berichtete. [1] Mit dem Dekret sind nicht nur Schiiten, sondern auch andere Muslime aufgerufen, den Sänger zu ermorden.

Andere staatlich kontrollierte iranische Medien wie Day News rufen ebenfalls zu Najafis Ermordung auf; das Webportal Shia Online setzte sogar 100 000 Dollar auf seinen Kopf aus. [2]

Massenfestnahmen in Ahwaz

Iranian authorities have detained at least 26 people in the city of Ahwaz and its surroundings in the southwestern province of Khuzestan during the weeks leading up to the April 15 anniversary of a 2005 protest and subsequent crackdown.

The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran called for the immediate release ofall detainees. Between late March and April 16, according to the European Ahwazi Human Rights Organisation (EAHRO), Iranian security and intelligence agents detained 26 activists to prevent the commemoration of the April 15 anniversary.

According to a report by the London-based International Center for Development Studies, Iran is stealing large amounts of oil from neighboring Iraqi fields worth $17 billion a year.
The amount of oil is estimated at 130,000 barrels and mainly comes from four Iraqi fields: Dehloran, Naft Shahr, Beidar West, and Aban.
The transfer of oil is made possible through smuggling networks that take an average of 35,000 barrels a day into Iran.

“Iranian so-called clerics are asses”

The official site of the supreme leader of the Islamic republic of Iran posted a comment that calls him “an ass.” Ayatollah Khamenei and his office have two official websites: leader.ir, which serves as the base for information dissemination on Khamenei by the leader’s office.  The other site Khamenei.ir belongs to the center for the preservation and publication of Khamenei’s works.

On February 12 the leader’s official site invited the public to send their comments on ayatollah Khamenei’s most important and most memorable sentence during the last Persian year that ended on March 20, 2012 by texting it to the site. According to the site, two thousand messages have been received so far by the office.

In the comments section of the site on the preservation of the leader’s works, a message by an anonymous person wrote, “All Iranian so-called clerics” were asses. He further wrote, “In my view his statement that we shall respond to the enemy at the same level at which he attacks us as usual demonstrates that he and all so-called Iranian clerics are asses. Shame on them.”

In the smoldering geopolitical feud between the U.S. and Iran, spymaster Major-General Qasem Soleimani is emerging as director of the Islamic Republic’s effort to spread its influence abroad and bedevil the West.

In January, Gen. Soleimani—commander of Iran’s elite overseas forces—traveled in secret to Damascus to meet with Syria’s president and architect of that nation’s bloody and continuing Arab Spring crackdown. At the meeting, Gen. Soleimani agreed to send more military aid and reaffirmed Iran’s close friendship, according to U.S. and Arab officials.

In February, American officials detected four Iranian jets ferrying munitions to Syria. On Sunday the Obama administration announced it would start providing communications equipment to Syria’s opposition, while Arab states committed to paying the salaries of rebel fighters.

Contentions Iran Justifies Israel’s Annihilation in Islamic Law

If Iran became a nuclear power, would it risk its own regime survival to strike at Israel? Such questions remain at the heart of the current debate. Those who argue either President Obama should try diplomacy again or that containment can work argue that Iran would not launch their weapons in a first strike against Israel, never mind what Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said during his term as president.

A recent article in the Iranian press written by Ali Reza Forqani, an ally of the Supreme Leader,  however, should re-inject concern about what Iran’s true intentions are. Entitled, “The Fiqh [Islamic Jurisprudence]-Based Reasons for the Need for Israel’s Annihilation,” the Open Source Center recently provided a full translation.

Deniz Yücel sagt in der taz, was zu deutscher Friedensforschung- und bewegung noch zu sagen wäre, die sich gerade mit Hochtouren darauf vorbereitet, zum Schutz des Iran zu mobilisieren, während ihr zum Massaker in Homs und anderen Städten in Syrien (mit einigen wirklich löblichen und couragierten Ausnahmen) gar nichts einfällt:

Kürzlich aber hat dieser Kreis eine Erklärung des „Netzwerks Friedenskooperative“ zum Atomkonflikt mit dem Iran erstunterzeichnet, die schon wegen der Selbstbezeichnung der Urheber („Eine Erklärung aus der Friedensbewegung und der Friedensforschung“) Zweifel weckt. Denn ein seriöser Beruf ist „Friedensforscher“ hierzulande nicht, jedenfalls keiner, der etwas mit Forschung zu tun hätte.

Als „Friedensforscher“ gilt vielmehr jeder, der zuverlässig die USA, Israel oder den „Westen“ als Aggressor ausmacht und eilfertig erklärt, dass dieser oder jener Diktator zwar ein schlimmer Finger ist, aber auch nicht schlimmer als dieser oder jener andere Diktator, dass man aber ja nichts unternehmen soll, um ihn zu stürzen, da sonst viel größeres Unheil droht. Mischen die USA bei einem Konflikt nicht mit, hält sich auch der „Friedensforscher“ raus. (…)

Dass das iranische Regime den Staat Israel vernichten will, bleibt unerwähnt, ebenso der Umstand, dass der Iran seit 30 Jahren alle Friedensanstrengungen in der Region sabotiert, das Dialogangebot von US-Präsident Barack Obama ausgeschlagen hat und auch von den meisten arabischen Staaten als Bedrohung wahrgenommen wird.

Zu einer iranischen Atombombe sagen die Unterzeichner nichts.

Pipelines

ILF Consulting Engineers, a German-Austrian company, confirmed on Monday that it is providing “advice and planning” work in the technological development of an Iranian-Pakistan pipeline project.

The German-Austrian involvement may violate US and EU sanctions barring the supply of technology to the Islamic Republic.

“Advisory and planning engineers” are working on the project, Rüdiger Ophoven, a spokesman for ILF’s gas and oil department, told The Jerusalem Post on Monday. He stressed that ILF is only involved in the Pakistani side of the project.

The Pakistan paper The Nation reported on Sunday that “according to the secretary of petroleum, Pakistan has offered $250 million to a German company, ILF Engineering, for laying the gas pipeline inside its territory.(…)

Austria and Germany are considered by experts in Europe to be the weakest links in the enforcement of the sanctions regime targeting Iran. Germany remains Iran’s most important EU trade partner, with an annual bilateral trade of roughly 4 billion euros.

“Elections in our country is like a comedy show for me. They are all acting, so why should I participate?” said a 32-year-old woman in Tajrish, a middle-class enclave in northern Tehran, as she was shopping for the coming Persian New Year.

The voting is even worse than we thought. I am reporting from a neighborhood in southern Tehran. Our house is close to a polling station. In the June 2009 [presidential] election, the station was so crowded the entire day and there was always a long line of people waiting to vote. But today there is nothing of the sort. People come one by one and there is no crowd. Most people who do vote are old people and very religious women with chadors.

Probleme mit der Choreographie

It was meant to be a crowning moment in which Iran put its own Islamic stamp on the Arab Spring. More than a thousand young activists were flown here earlier this week (at government expense) for a conference on “the Islamic Awakening,” Tehran’s effort to rebrand the popular Arab uprisings of the past year.

As delegates flooded into a vast auditorium next to a space needle in western Tehran, a screen showed images of the Iranian revolution in 1979, morphing seamlessly into footage of young Arab protesters in Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, Libya and Yemen.

But there was a catch. No one was invited from Syria, whose autocratic president, Bashar al-Assad, is a crucial Iranian ally. The Syrian protesters are routinely dismissed by Tehran’s government as foreign agents — despite the fact that they are Muslims fighting a secular (and brutal) dictatorship.

That inconvenient truth soon marred the whole script. As the conference began, a young man in the audience held up a sign with the word “SYRIA?” written in English. Applause burst out in the crowd, followed by boos. Audience members began chanting the slogan of the Syrian protesters: “God, freedom and Syria!” But they were drowned out by others chanting pro-Assad slogans.

Soon afterward, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran’s president, took the stage to deliver his opening remarks and tackled the subject with his characteristic bluntness.

“We must be vigilant: the West is trying to foment sectarian conflict in our societies, as part of their goal of keeping Israel alive,” he said. “Today Syria, tomorrow your country.”

Those words drew choreographed chants of approval from a claque in the audience. But many participants clearly were not buying, and the uprising inside the conference hall seemed to have left its mark. In the afternoon, journalists were barred from the proceedings.

“We were given strict instructions not to say anything about Syria,” one smirking reporter for a state-run Iranian news agency said during a break.

Im Atomstreit mit dem Iran hat Bundesaußenminister Guido Westerwelle (FDP) der Regierung in Teheran erneut mit harten Strafmaßnahmen gedroht. “Es ist offensichtlich so, dass der Iran mit seinem Atomprogramm eher auf Konfrontation und Verhärtung setzt als auf Kooperation und Transparenz”, sagte Westerwelle am Donnerstag vor Journalisten in Berlin. “Das bedauern wir. Und das wird leider nicht ohne Folgen bleiben können.”

International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran has revealed that the authorities are on an execution spree arranged by the country’s intelligence and security agencies. About one person is hanged every eight hours since the start of 2011. People executed were either convicted of violent crimes or belonged to minority groups.

Detectives investigating the murder of an Iranian molecular scientist gunned down in her car as she drove home believe she was followed or that someone was waiting for her.

Gelareh Bagherzadeh, 30, who lobbied on behalf of Iranian women’s civil rights, was struck by a single bullet that entered the passenger door window as she talked on her cell phone with her ex-boyfriend.

Iran Helping Syria Circumvent Oil Embargo

U.S. officials have uncovered an effort by Iran to help Syria mask its oil exports and evade an American and European embargo. American officials said the Iranian operation is designed to quietly ship Syrian crude oil to Iran, where it can be sold on the international market, with revenue going back to Damascus. In response, the Treasury Department has begun targeting the insurance and registration of international tankers shipping Syrian oil overseas.

Covert War in Iran

The U.S. withdrawal from Iraq will create a power vacuum that the Iranians are eager to exploit. The potential for Iran to control a sphere of influence from western Afghanistan to the Mediterranean is a prospect that not only frightens regional players such as Israel, Saudi Arabia and Turkey but also raises serious concerns in the United States. As we have noted before, we don’t believe that a military attack against Iran’s nuclear facilities alone is the answer to the regional threat posed by Iran. Iran’s power comes from its ability to employ its conventional forces and not nuclear weapons. Therefore, strikes against its nuclear weapons program would not impact Iran’s conventional forces or its ability to interfere with the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz by using its conventional forces asymmetrically against U.S. naval power and commercial shipping. Indeed, any attack on Iran would have to be far broader than just a one-off attack like the June 1981 Israeli strike at Osirak, Iraq, that crippled Saddam Hussein’s nuclear weapons program. Because of this difficulty, we have seen the Israelis, Americans and their allies attacking Iran through other means. First of all, they are seeking to curb Iran’s sphere of influence by working to overthrow the Syrian regime, limit Iran’s influence in Iraq and control Hezbollah in Lebanon. They are also seeking to attack Iran’s nuclear program by coercing officials to defect, assassinating scientists and deploying cyberwarfare weapons such as the Stuxnet worm. It is also necessary to recognize that covert action does not occur in a vacuum. Each covert activity requires a tremendous amount of clandestine intelligence-gathering in order to plan and execute it. With so much covert action happening, the clandestine activity undertaken by all sides to support it is obviously tremendous. But as the frequency of this activity increases, so can sloppy tradecraft. Finally, as we examine this campaign it is remarkable to note that not only are Iran’s enemies using covert methods to stage attacks on Iran’s nuclear program and military capabilities, they are also developing new and previously unknown methods to do so. And they have shown a willingness to allow these new covert attack capabilities to be unveiled by using them — which could render them useless for future attacks. This willingness to use, rather than safeguard, revolutionary new capabilities strongly underscores the importance of this covert campaign to Iran’s adversaries. It also indicates that we will likely see other new forms of covert warfare emerge in the coming months, along with revolutionary new tactical applications of older forms.

Es wird besser und besser

Ach so:

Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Ghadanfar Roken Abadi said on Friday that the situation in Syria is “improving.”

“Day by day, things are getting better in Syria,” the envoy said following his meeting with Speaker Nabih Berri.

He added that “Western states’ [unyielding] position vis-à-vis President Bashar al-Assad’s regime is lessening,” the National News Agency reported.

“The Islamic Republic’s stances are proving to be right; the majority of the Syrian people support [Assad’s] regime and want to make reforms at the same time.”

Keine Grautöne mehr

Die Veranstalter des Vortrages von von Stephan Grigat “Das iranische Regime und die Bedrohung Israels” am 2.12.2011  in Bayreuth hatten mich gebeten aus dem Irak ein Grusswort zu schreiben. Dieser Bitte bin ich nachgekommen:

“Gerne nehme ich die Gefahr auf mich, pathetisch zu klingen, wenn ich sage, dass wir uns in einer historischen Situation befinden, die, wenn es um den Nahen Osten geht, keine Grautöne mehr kennt, sondern simples Schwarz und Weiss. Und die von deshalb gewissermaßen von jedem auch verlangt, sich zu entscheiden, auf welcher Seite er stehen will.

Spätestens mit Publikation des letzetn IAEA Berichtes ist klar geworden, was seit Jahren eigentlich bekannt ist und von uns immer wieder gesagt wurde: Der Iran baut an der Atombombe. Nicht um sich gegen äußere Feinde zu verteidigen, sondern um zur dominaten Regionalmacht aufzusteigen und vor allem um Israel zu vernichten. Die Islamisten in Teheran pflegen, wie andere Faschisten auch, in der Regel immer ziemlich deutlich zu sagen, was sie tun werden, wenn man sie lässt. Die iranische Führung hat aus ihrem Anliegen, den jüdischen Staat vernichten zu wollen, nie ein Hehl gemacht. Ebensowenig hat sie geleugnet, dass sie künftig zumindest im Nahen Osten die bestimmende Macht sein will, mit allen Konsequenzen auch für die Millionen von Menschen, die nicht unter dem Terror der Sittenwächter leben möchten.

Deutsche Loesung: Satellitenbeobachtung statt Intervention

Die Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik hat jahrelang Bashar Assads Regime als wichtigen Dialogpartner fuer die europaeische Aussenpolitik beworben. Die schon damals existente syrische Opposition interessierte dagegen nicht. Jetzt stehen Assad und sein notorisches Folterregime ziemlich isoliert dar. In Kuerze w wird sich wohl ausgerechnet die Arabische Liga noch an den UN-Sicherheitsrat wenden, waehrend im Land selbst laengst Buergerkrieg herrscht und die Fress Syrian Army erstmals offen eine Militaerintervention in Syrien fordert. Zeit also fuer die SWP ein wenig Selbstkritik zu ueben? Aber keineswegs doch. Im selben Stil der voellig empathiefreien und besserwisserischen Politikberatung, die noch bei jedem Konflikt im Nahen Osten in den letzten Jahren voll daneben lag, machen die Damen und Herren aus Berlin weiter:

Auch wenn Präsident Bashar al-Asad ganz überwiegend nicht mehr als Stabilitätsfaktor gesehen wird (das scheint selbst für so enge Verbündete wie den Iran zu gelten), so gibt es noch keine alternative Kraft, die ausreichend handlungsfähig wäre.

Als Stabilitaetsfaktor hat die SWP Syrien gesehen, fuer den Iran war der Verbuendete in Damaskus dagegen immer gut fuer die weitere und systematische Destabilisierung des Nahen Ostens. Das aber werden deutsche Politikberater erst begreifen, wenn wahlweise der Atompilz ueber Tel Aviv schwebt oder Ahmedinejad und Konsorten aus der naechsten Abwasserroehre gezogen werden.

Asyl fuer die Hamas II

Im April habe ich an dieser Stelle einige Vermutungen ueber die Zukunft der Hamas angestellt:

Am Ende koennte Teheran dann einer der grossen Verlierer der Neuen, von Aegypten initiierten Nahostpolitik sein. Und das waere, bei aller berechtigten Sorge um das angekuendigte Versoehnungsabkommen zwischen Fatah und Hamas, ein enormer Fortschritt. Denn anders als der Iran, dem es  um die Zerstoerung Israels und Neuordnung der Region unter Fuehrerschaft Teherans geht, wuenscht momentan kein arabisches Land eine grundlegende Veraenderung des Status Quo in Nahost, der eben auch die Existenz Israels miteinschliesst.

Seitdem ist einiges geschehen und um Bashar al-Assad, den engsten Verbuendeten des Iran in der Region, steht es schlecht. Die Hamas sucht dringt ein neues Domizil. Neben Qatar und Aegypten ist nun auch Jordanien im Gespraech. Egal in welches Land sie umziehen wird, jedenfalls wird sie sich aus dem iranischen Orbit entfernen und zunehmend unter Kontrolle der arabisch-sunnitischen Regimes geraten, die zumindest moment samt und sonders keinerlei Interesse an einer militaerischen Eskalation des israelisch-palaestinensischen Konfliktes haben.  

Das aber heisst, die neuen Gastgeber werden von der Hamas erwarten, dass sie zwar nicht von ihrem zerstoererischem Programm Abschied nimmt, wohl aber von ihrer Strategie.
