The Syrian rebel army, dubbed the ‘Free Syria Army,’ posted a video on Friday featuring Iranian soldiers and officers from the Revolutionary Guard who they captured during fighting in Homs, they claimed.

The video shows soldiers sitting against the wall, beside various weapons. One soldier is the main speaker, and presents himself, in Persian, as an officer in Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. He said that he arrived in Syria in order to aide Syrian forces loyal to President Bashar Assad in the crackdown on protesters.

Im Atomstreit mit dem Iran hat Bundesaußenminister Guido Westerwelle (FDP) der Regierung in Teheran erneut mit harten Strafmaßnahmen gedroht. „Es ist offensichtlich so, dass der Iran mit seinem Atomprogramm eher auf Konfrontation und Verhärtung setzt als auf Kooperation und Transparenz“, sagte Westerwelle am Donnerstag vor Journalisten in Berlin. „Das bedauern wir. Und das wird leider nicht ohne Folgen bleiben können.“

An Iranian military plane crashed early Thursday near the Gulf coast, the country’s semi-official Fars news agency reported, saying no reason had yet been given for the incident.

„An F-14 crashed three minutes after take-off at 4:30 a.m. near the city of Bushehr,“ near one of Iran’s nuclear facilities, Fars reported, citing a local government official.

The incident joins a series of mysterious mishaps reported in Iran in recent months. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinjead recently stepped up the security protecting the country’s top nuclear scientists, several of whom have been victims of assassinations, following the most recent assassination earlier this month.

Der Skandal um Golshifte Farahanis Körper

Vor einigen Tagen wurden auf YouTube ein kleiner Film des französischen Figaro und Nacktfotos von Golshifte Farahani veröffentlicht, und das löste eine große Lawine an Diskussionen und Kommentaren aus, nicht nur in verschiedenen iranischen Zeitungen, sondern auch in Blogs und Webseiten der Opposition.

Golshiftes Eltern sind beide Künstler. Sie haben sich dem Druck gebeugt, sich von ihrer Tochter distanziert und haben gesagt, alles sei Photoshop. Golshifte entgegnete darauf: Nein, alles ist Realität, und veröffentlichte ihr Nacktfoto auf ihrer Facebook-Seite.

Inzwischen hat sich das iranische Publikum gespalten und zwei große Fronten gebildet. Tausende verteidigen Golschifte und meinen, sie sei die Alia Magda al-Mahdi des Iran. Sie schreiben, das sei ein Zeichen der Jugend im Iran. Sie haben den Hijab und den Islam satt – ebenso die frauenfeindliche Kultur und die Religion. Grünes Licht für die Zentralbank Irans?

„Wir werden eine nukleare Bewaffnung des Iran nicht akzeptieren“, versprachen Bundeskanzlerin Merkel, Präsident Sarkozy und Ministerpräsident Cameron am 23. Januar 2012. „Bis der Iran an den Verhandlungstisch zurückkehrt, werden wir gemeinsam starke Maßnahmen unterstützen, die die Möglichkeiten des iranischen Regimes zur Finanzierung seines Atomprogramms einschränken.“[01]

Dann aber, einen Tag später, veröffentlichte das Official Journal of the European Union das Kleingedruckte der am 23. Januar verabschiedeten Iranbeschlüsse der EU. Dieses Kleingedruckte zu verstehen, ist nicht leicht. Gleichwohl fällt auch dem juristischen Laien das riesige Schlupfloch in Artikel 1 der EU-Verordnung 56/2012 ins Auge – ein Schlupfloch, dass sich auf die Iranischen Zentralbank (IZB) bezieht; ein Schlupfloch, groß genug, um „die Möglichkeiten des iranischen Regimes zur Finanzierung seines Atomprogramms“ auch in Zukunft offenzuhalten.

Während über den Embargobeschluss – das phasenweise Auslaufen iranischer Rohstofflieferungen in die EU – berichtet wurde, fiel jenes Schlupfloch in der Berichterstattung unter den Tisch.

Ein janusköpfiger Entschluss

Auf der einen Seite haben die EU-Außenminister die Iranische Zentralbank am 23. Januar 2012 erstmals auf die Sanktionsliste gesetzt. „Involvement in activities to circumvent sanctions“ – lautet die Begründung in EU-Verordnung 54/2012. Diese Darstellung verharmlost den Sachverhalt: In Wirklichkeit fungiert die IZB als Finanzzentrum für das Atomwaffenprogramm. Die Sanktionierung beinhaltet, dass alle Geldmittel dieser Bank auf europäischem Boden mit sofortiger Wirkung einzufrieren sind und somit keine weitere Verwendung finden dürfen.

Nicht genug, zu spät

Seen from Israel, the Obama administration and the European Union are holding sanctions off until summer to give US, European and Iranian back-channel emissaries using Turkey’s good offices enough space to get nuclear negotiations resumed.
Iran is being offered to chance to repeat the old tricks, say Israeli sources, after repeatedly and successfully pulling them off in the last seven years, of sitting the world powers down for talks while carrying on blithely with plans for the first Shiite Muslim nuke. The extra six months will be a useful grace time for Iran to secrete its nuclear facilities in fortified underground bunkers.

According to the same old scenario, when July comes around, the US and European powers will seek to postpone sanctions so as not to jeopardize the talks with Iran.

Barak’s words about the sanctions not being tough enough and „too far off“ reflected his government’s belief that the oil embargo cannot gain enough momentum by July to seriously upset the Iranian economy; another six months would be needed, so taking the new sanctions drive up to early 2013.

Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei seems to believe the Islamic Republic of Iran is more isolated in the world than ever.

The evidence of Khamenei’s belief can be found in his public speech in Qom on January 9, “The current conditions in Iran are the same as Badr and Kheybar, and not Shaab-e-Abu Talib,” Khamenei said.

According to Islamic history Shaab-e-Abu Talib is a region in Saudi Arabia, where during the early days of Islam, the Prophet Mohammad and his followers were forced to live under an economic and social blockade for three years. According to Islamic literature, the situation was so bad that “they had to tie rocks to their stomachs” in order to alleviate the pain resulting from prolonged hunger.

Similar language emerged in an unprecedented statement by Mahmoud Bahmani, head of Iran’s Central Bank, announced on December 21, 2011, “We have to manage the society in a way to survive for two years. Just like if were trapped in Shaab-e-Abu Talib.”

Khamenei dismissed the head of the Central Bank’s statements, but by recognizing the situation similar to Badr and Kheybar, he has indirectly confessed that the Islamic Republic is isolated domestically, regionally, and internationally.

The 27 nations of the EU dealt a huge oil shock to Iran. They agreed to ban Iranian oil to stop its rogue nuclear program. The EU embargo promises to be a massive economic blow to a country already staggering from tightening U.S. and European sanctions. Iran’s currency has plummeted by half against the dollar since December. Inflation rages at more than 20% a month.
President Obama needs to make economic sanctions stick – and sting. Iran has flimflammed the world for years now. The EU’s oil embargo sends a powerful message to the mullahs: Nuclear aggression carries a painful price. The costs go up until Iran stands down.

EU-Staaten beschließen Boykott gegen Iran

Heute haben sich die EU-Staaten auf ein Erdöl-Embargo gegen den Iran geeinigt. 18 Prozent der iranischen Erdöl-Exporte gehen in die EU. Ein Handelsstopp ist ein empfindlicher Schlag gegen das Mullah-Regime, das seinerseits bereits seit Wochen damit droht, die Straße von Hormus für den Tankerverkehr zu sperren und so der westlichen Welt den Ölhahn des Nahen Ostens nahezu komplett abzudrehen.

Währung im freien Fall

After a temporary, artificial levelling, the Iranian Rial has resumed its slide. It fell 5.5% on Saturday, reaching 19000:1 vs. the US dollar. The Rial is almost 50% weaker than in September, when the Central Bank made its last significant intervention to hold the rate.

That intervention, at least through injections of foreign currency, no longer appears possible. And Saturday’s developments expose failure of propaganda and pressure — the Central Bank’s „ordered“ open-market rate of 14000:1, supported by the blocking of websites and threatened arrests of currency traders, is long gone.

The even larger development may be the flight of Iranians from currency into gold. The price of gold coin has been steadily rising all month, but on Saturday it jumped 18%, with old coin now at 930,000 Toman (about $480) and new coin at 922,000 Toman (about $475).

The Islamic regime of Iran’s English language Press TV has had its UK licence revoked by media regulator, Ofcom. It will be removed from Sky on 20 January. Celebrate good times, come on…

Ofcom finally acknowledged that Tehran has editorial oversight on Press TV. No shit.

Of course Press TV has called the decision ‘a clear example of censorship’ but it’s not. As I have said before Press TV is an arm of the regime’s intelligence service – it’s not press in any way shape or form. The press is banned in Iran unless it is run and approved by the state and even then many outlets are banned for transgressing rules.

Turkish refiner Tupras plans to cut its dependence on imports of Iranian oil and will meet Saudi Arabian authorities this month, industry sources familiar with the company’s strategy said, as Western powers crack down on Iran’s oil sales. Turkey imports more than 30% of its daily consumption from Iran and has so far given no indication that it will comply with a planned European Union import embargo on Iranian crude. But one of the sources said that Iranian threats to shut down the world’s most important oil export route, the Strait of Hormuz, had helped push Turkish oil officials to try to reduce the country’s heavy dependence on Iran’s oil.

One person is hanged every eight hours

Iran Helping Syria Circumvent Oil Embargo

U.S. officials have uncovered an effort by Iran to help Syria mask its oil exports and evade an American and European embargo. American officials said the Iranian operation is designed to quietly ship Syrian crude oil to Iran, where it can be sold on the international market, with revenue going back to Damascus. Fars berichtet von geheimem Brief an geistlichen Führer

Teheran (dapd). US-Präsident Barack Obama hat dem Iran offenbar direkte Gespräche vorschlagen. Obama habe einen geheimen Brief an den geistlichen Führer des Landes, Ayatollah Ali Chamenei, geschrieben, berichtete die amtliche Nachrichtenagentur Fars unter Berufung auf den Abgeordneten Ali Motahari am Mittwoch. Darin habe er auch gewarnt, eine Blockade der Straße von Hormus stelle eine „rote Linie“ für Washington dar. Der Iran hatte im Streit um sein Atomprogramm mit der Blockade gedroht.

Motahari ergänzte laut dem Bericht, dass der erste Teil des Briefes aus Drohungen bestanden habe und der zweite ein Gesprächsangebot enthalten habe. Das iranische Außenministerium erklärte, die Regierung prüfe den Brief und werde gegebenenfalls antworten.

Das Weiße Haus lehnte zunächst eine inhaltliche Stellungnahme ab. Ein Sprecher des Nationalen Sicherheitsrats bestätigte jedoch, dass die USA eine Reihe von Möglichkeiten hätten, um mit dem Iran zu kommunizieren.

Zum Jahreswechsel hatte der Iran ein groß angelegtes Seemanöver in der Nähe der Straße von Hormus abgehalten und Mittelstreckenraketen getestet. Im kommenden Monat sollen weitere Manöver abgehalten werden.
Im Dezember hatten die USA weitere Sanktionen gegen die iranische Zentralbank verhängt, die jedoch erst mit sechsmonatiger Verzögerung in Kraft treten sollen, um einen weiteren Anstieg des Ölpreises zu verhindern.
Eine mögliche Schließung der Straße von Hormus hätte immense Auswirkungen auf den weltweiten Ölmarkt. Durch die Meerenge wird etwa ein Sechstel des weltweiten Erdöls transportiert. Iran ist der zweitgrößte Ölproduzent der Organisation erdölexportierender Länder (OPEC) und bezieht 80 Prozent seiner Devisen aus dem Ölgeschäft. Die USA und Israel werfen dem Iran vor, mit seinem Atomprogramm auch waffenfähiges Material herzustellen, was der Iran bestreitet.

Hizbullah cancelled its plan to attack targets in Thailand after one of its members was arrested in Bangkok and the authorities learned about the plot, National Police Chief Gen. Priewpan Damapong quoted the suspect as saying Saturday, adding that the police would still be on guard. Priewpan said a Lebanese man, Hussein Atris, 48, who was arrested for suspected links with Hizbullah, admitted the plot to police interrogators.

Vortrag über die aktuelle Lage im Iran

Der Konflikt mit dem Iran eskaliert mit rasanter Geschwindigkeit seit Ende vergangenen Jahres die Internationale Atomenergiebehörde in ihrem letzten Bericht deutliche Worte fand: Teheran baue, so das UN-Gremium, offenbar an einem heimlichen militärischen Nuklearprogramm. Das allerdings ist seit Jahren ein offenes Geheimnis. Immer wieder haben hochrangige Vertreter der iranischen Diktatur zum Ausdruck gebracht, ihr Ziel sei es nicht nur Atomwaffen zu entwickeln, sondern sie auch einzusetzen und zwar gegen Israel.
Während man also im Iran mit Hochdruck an der Bombe baut, haben die Ereignisse des so genannten Arabischen Frühlings auch die Machthaber in Teheran erwischt. Bejubelten sie noch das Ende der angeblich prowestlichen Autokraten in Tunesien und Ägypten haben die Proteste nun auch ihren engsten Alliierten, nämlich den syrischen Diktator Bashar al-Assad, ins Wanken gebracht. Zugleich rüsten Saudi Arabien und andere Golfstaaten zur Gegenoffensive: Für sie stellt der schiitische Iran eine Hauptbedrohung in der Region dar.
Und dann stehen im Iran noch Parlamentswahlen an. Wird es deshalb erneut, wie im Jahre 2009, zu Massendemonstrationen der Bevölkerung gegen das Regime kommen. Allen Grund erneut auf die Straße zu gehen hätten die Iraner, nicht nur unterdrückt das Regime brutal freie Meinungsäußerung ebenso wie Minderheiten, Frauen und Homosexuelle, auch die ökonomische Lage sieht düster aus. Langsam beginnen die Sanktionen, die gegen den Iran verhängt wurden zu wirken, Inflation und Verarmung sind die Folge.

Is China finally coming around on Iran? For years, Beijing’s steady backing has helped the Iranian regime frustrate international efforts to isolate and penalize it for its nuclear ambitions. This month, however, there are heartening signs that China is reassessing its longstanding strategic partnership with the Islamic Republic.

China has begun to curtail its energy trade with Tehran, responding to new economic sanctions levied against Iran’s central bank by the Obama administration and the increasingly likely prospect of an embargo on Iranian oil by European countries. This month, China’s crude imports from Iran have fallen by some 285,000 barrels daily, more than half the total volume China regularly imports from Iran on a day-to-day basis. Österreichs Regime-Hilfe

Trotz aller bisherigen, völlig unzureichenden Sanktionsbeschlüsse trägt Österreich weiterhin dazu bei, dass das iranische Regime seine Projekte fortsetzen kann: von der brutalen Repression gegen die eigene Bevölkerung über die Unterstützung des internationalen djihadistischen Terrors bis zum Nuklearwaffen- und Raketenprogramm, das für die gesamte Region eine massive Gefahr ist und für Israel eine existenzielle Bedrohung darstellt. Wollte die Regierung in Wien einen ernsthaften Beitrag dazu leisten, den Gefahren zu begegnen, die von diesem Regime ausgehen, müsste sie zumindest dem Beispiel Großbritanniens und den Vorschlägen Frankreichs folgen und eine Sanktionierung der iranischen Zentralbank sowie der iranischen Erdgas- und Erdölexporte beschließen, weitere Sanktionen gegen europäische Industrieexporte in den Iran verhängen und sich auf EU-Ebene für die Durchsetzung eben dieser Maßnahmen einsetzen.

Tehran car bomb kills Iranian nuclear scientist

Iranian media reported Wednesday that a university professor and nuclear scientist was killed by a bomb placed on his car by a motorcyclist in Tehran.

According to the semi-official Fars news agency, Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, 32, supervised a department at Natanz uranium enrichment facility in Isfahan province.

Eskalation

Sunday, Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the US Chiefs of Staff, warned in no uncertain terms that Iran has the ability to block the Strait of Hormuz “for a period of time.” He added in a CBS interview: “We’ve invested in capabilities to ensure that if that happens, we can defeat that.” Gen. Dempsey went on to emphasize: „Yes, they can block it. We’ve described that as an intolerable act and it’s not just intolerable for us, it’s intolerable to the world. But we would take action and reopen the straits.“
Appearing on the same program, US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta warned of a quick, decisive and very tough American response to any Iranian attempt to close the Strait of Hormuz.

They both spoke a few hours after a spokesman for the Revolutionary Guards said the supreme Iranian leadership had ruled the Strait must be closed in the event of an oil embargo imposed on Iran by the European Union.
