Khamenei: Unrest Was Planned In Advance

In a speech to students, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said that the unrest that followed the June presidential election was planned in advance, but that he was not accusing the protest organizers of cooperating with foreign elements.

He said that it was better to consider the strong points of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s government instead of attacking its weaknesses.

Turkish FM: Election Strengthened Iran

During a meeting in Istanbul with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davotoglu said that Iran’s successful election had strengthened its standing in the world.

Iranian Officials: Rafanjani’s Son Must Stand Trial

Majlis National Security Council member Mahmoud Ahmadi-Bighash and a Student Basij official have called for prosecuting Mehdi Hashemi, the son of Hashemi Rafsanjani, after his role in leading the protests was revealed this week (August 25) during the trial of the protest detainees.

Iranian Majlis Member: There’s Substance To Stories Of Prison Sexual Torture

The Iranian website Parlemannews, which is identified with opponents of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the Majlis, stated that incidents of sexual torture were one reason for the closure of the detention facility at Kahrizak.

A member of the Majlis committee for examining the situation of the protest detainees told the website anonymously that the stories about sexual torture of the detainees in Kahrizak were grounded in fact.
