Den Iran einbinden

Die neueste politisch-diplomatische Initiative der Obama Administration besteht darin, die Taliban in direkte Verhandlungen einzubinden. Dafür gibt’s dann safe passage nach Kabul.

Und von medico international über IPPNW bis hin zu der linken amerikanischen Nation fordern sie nun alle, auch der Iran müsse in Verhandlungen über die Zukunft Afghanistans einbezogen werden. Was er längst ist:

On Monday Iranian diplomats were seated at a NATO conference in Rome at the invitation of the Obama administration to discuss the way forward in Afghanistan. It was the ninth meeting of the NATO contact group.

Was der Iran von solchen Verhandlungen hält ist bekannt. Aber für alle, die es nicht wissen sollten:

Two weeks ago Afghan officials intercepted a shipment of Iranian weapons en route to the Taliban in the Afghan province of Nimroz.

“The police chief of Nimroz announced that they had intercepted a couple tons of Iranian explosives marked as food and toys,” said Michael Rubin of the American Enterprise Institute, who just returned from a two week visit to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Aber Iran ist auch noch an ganz anderen Fronten im Nachbarland aktiv. Wenn seine Vertreter gerade nicht auf Nato-Konferenzen rumsitzen, zahlen sie etwa Kopfgeld für getötete US-Soldaten.
