Eight Iranian Soldiers Die Inside Iraq When Iranian Mine Explodes Under Car
Eight Iranian soldiers on patrol duty died yesterday when their military vehicle triggered a mine inside the Iraqi border near the province of Erbil.
Iran planted mines in the area two years ago to prevent the crossing of armed Kurdish rebels and smugglers.
Iran has occasionally been firing artillery shells on the northern Iraq targeting elements of the Kurdish-Iranian rebel group PJAK, which uses the mountains in the area for raids inside Iran.
