French Diplomat: „Iran Responded to Sanctions by Speeding Up Work on Bomb“ –

„Iran has responded to the toughening of sanctions by speeding up its work on a bomb, not slowing it down,“ says Jean-David Levitte, former French ambassador to Washington and, until May, then-President Nicolas Sarkozy’s diplomatic adviser. „We now have only a relatively few months to act before Iran’s nuclear effort becomes irreversible.“
Levitte believes that the six powers conducting nuclear negotiations with Iran have to make a final comprehensive offer. Failing Tehran’s quick agreement to such a proposal, the only courses left open will be acceptance of an Iranian bomb or military action to prevent it, he argues.
Levitte suggests that the international community must now go to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with a choice: Iran finally agrees to restrict nuclear enrichment to 5% or less and exports its stockpile of higher-grade enriched uranium. Or the U.S., having made this high-profile final effort, will gain broader international acceptance of an American-led military strike to destroy Iran’s nuclear capability at some point in 2013.

Blogger’s death stirs political hornet’s nest in Iran

On November 12, the committee for national security and foreign affairs in the majles held a hearing on Beheshti’s death with members of the national police force present. At the end of the session, the head of the committee, Alaeddin Borujerdi, said the evidence showed no marks of abuse or torture on Beheshti’s body.

Only a few hours later on the same day, Mohseni-Ejehi, the attorney-general, announced that the official medical examiner had noted bruises in five places on Beheshti’s body.

Arbeiterproteste im Iran

Arbeiterstreiks und Proteste häufen sich im Iran. Im Jahr 2012 gab es mehr Arbeiterproteste als in den Jahren zuvor. Die Arbeiter stellen meist ökonomische Forderungen nach Lohnerhöhungen. Ein Gros der iranischen Arbeiterschaft geht aber davon aus, dass sie sich gegen den Gottesstaat wehren dürfen und Widerstand leisten müssen, um auf ihre Rechte in einem Unrechtsystem aufmerksam zu machen.

In den 90er Jahren wurden Arbeiterstreiks faktisch verboten, auch wenn formal noch Paragraphen 141, 142 und 143 der iranischen Arbeitsgesetzgebung gültig sind, die ein Recht auf Streik der Arbeiter einräumen.

Beispielsweise konnten einige privatisierte Firmen im Zuge der Wirtschaftspolitik von Präsident Ahamdinejad monatelang keine Löhne auszahlen. Die Privatisierungspolitik führte zu massiven Entlassungen in verschiedenen Unternehmen, wie BBC Farsi schon im April 2012 meldete. In einigen Fällen wurden Lohnausfälle gemeldet, die über zwei Jahre andauerten. Eine Plastikfirma entließ mehr als 350 Arbeiter, weil im Zuge der Wirtschaftspolitik der Regierung Löhne nicht ausbezahlt werden konnten.

Obama expected to nominate anti-Israel Hagel as secretary of defense

The White House Counsel’s office has reportedly completed Hagel’s vetting process after Obama discussed the position with the former Republican Nebraska Senator on December 4, The Politico news organization reported.
Michele Flournoy, former defense undersecretary for policy, and Ashton Carter, deputy defense secretary are the other contenders for the post.
Some in the Israeli lobby have reportedly reacted with alarm to reports of Hagel’s nomination as he is known as an outspoken critic of the Zionist lobby in Washington.
“The political reality is … that the Jewish lobby intimidates a lot of people up here,” Hagel told former Mideast peace negotiator Aaron David Miller in a 2006 interview.
“I have always argued against some of the dumb things they do,” he added.
In a 2008 interview, Hagel noted that he had never signed any of the letters by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) aimed at showing support for Israel or taking stances against Israel’s enemies.

Iran warns Patriot missiles in Turkey could lead to „world war“

The recent approval by the Western Alliance for the deployment of Patriot missiles in Turkey bordering Syria has invited strong criticism from Iran. Taking note of the development, Iran’s chief of armed forces, Maj. Gen. Hassan Firouzabadi declared that the presence of Patriot missiles in Turkey may escalate a third world war.

The approval by US to deploy the missiles came on Turkey’s request due to the apprehension that embattled Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria might be compelled to use non-conventional weapons against the rebels who have positioned themselves along the Turkish-Syrian border. Quelle

Iranische Atomdelegation sagt: Gespräche sind nicht mehr nötig

Die Islamische Republik Iran scheint den “kritischen Dialog” im Rahmen ihrer Atomgespräche in New Delhi in Lausanne offenbar seit letzter Woche nicht mehr nötig zu haben.

Mustafa Dolatyar, ein hochrangiger Teilnehmer der Iranischen Delegation, ließ am Freitag in New Delhi durchblicken, dass die diplomatischen Termine tatsächlich nach nirgendwo führen und die Forderung nach einem Stopp der Anreicherung bei 20% “überhaupt keinen Sinn” machen.

Bei Herrn Dolatyar handelt es sich beileibe um kein kleines Licht, sondern den Chef des ofiziellen Think-tanks des iranischen Außenministeriums namens “Institute for Political and International Studies”.

Iran: Suche nach neuen Terrorbasen

Israelische Medien: Iran will Militärstützpunkte in Sudan bauen

Einigen Berichten zufolge habe der sudanische Präsident den Bau des iranischen Militärstützpunktes auf dem Territorium des Sudans genehmigt. Dies teilen israelische Medien am Donnerstag mit.

Auf dem Stützpunkt sollen iranische Raketen stationiert werden, die Ziele im südlichen und zentralen Teil Israels bekämpfen und Militärstützpunkte Saudi-Arabiens und der USA in den Golf-Staaten bedrohen werden.

Der Iran wolle auch einen Marinestützpunkt an der sudanischen Küste des Roten Meers bauen.

Gute Freunde kann niemand trennen

Vielleicht kam der zuständige ZDF-Redakteur für diesem Artikel ja auf die Idee, dass der Iran und Nordkorea zusammenarbeiten könnten. Wäre sicher eine „gigantische Überraschung“.

Raketenstart mit Hilfe aus Iran?

Allen Warnungen zum Trotz hat Nordkorea eine Langstreckenrakete abgefeuert. Die USA drohen mit Konsequenzen. Sie und ihre Verbündeten fürchten, dass die Rakete Atomsprengköpfe transportieren könnte. (12.12.2012)

(heute.de) Nach dem vermutlich erfolgreichen nordkoreanischen Raketenstart wächst der Verdacht, dass Iran der Regierung in Pjöngjang geholfen haben könnte. Unabhängig voneinander berichten Medien davon, dass sich iranische Raketentechniker auf Basis eines Abkommens zwischen beiden Staaten in Nordkorea aufhalten sollen.

Rüstungsexperten des „Arms Control Wonk“, des führenden Weblogs zu Nuklearwaffen und ballistischen Raketen, vermuten, dass sich die iranischen Techniker in einer Anlage bei Sino-Ri im Nordwesten Nordkoreas aufhalten. Sino-ri gilt nach Informationen von „Jane’s Defence“ als einzige Trainings-Einrichtung für ballistische Raketen in Nordkorea und ist eine Basis für ballistische Raketen vom Typ Nodong. Ungefähr 45 Kilometer entfernt liegt der Raketenstartplatz von Tongch’ang-dong, auch bekannt als Sohae-Raumfahrtzentrum, der für den jüngsten Raketenstart genutzt wurde.

    Brig.-Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh, Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force, said Monday:     „We don’t need missiles with over 2,000 km…[since] Israel is our longest-range target.“

Syrian Defector: Assad Regime Tested Chemical Weapons Six Weeks Ago in the Presence of Iranian Experts

Captain Abdul-Salam Abdul-Razzaq, a Syrian army defector who was part of the al-Assad military’s „Chemical Weapons Department,“ said „the regime has already used this kind of weapon, albeit in a limited manner, namely in Baba Amr last year. The regime also threatened to use chemical weapons in al-Zabadani, distributing gas masks and radiation suits to its troops.“ He also revealed that „tests were being conducted on such weapons nearly 6 weeks ago in al-Muslimiya district in eastern Aleppo in the presence of Iranian experts.“
Abdul-Razzaq said the chemical weapons are under the direct supervision of experts from Iran, Russia and North Korea. There was a recent decision to relocate the weapons after America’s CIA had uncovered their previous locations.

Islamic Republic’s Trade at Standstill

Even as Iran’s president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad talks of “circumventing” international sanctions against the country and as officials had until recently boasted that the restrictions imposed by the West over Tehran’s nuclear program had no impact on the country’s economy, the minister of industries, mines and trade announced this week that trade by the Islamic republic had virtually come to a halt because of international restrictions.

Mehdi Ghazanfari, the minister of industries told reporters, “The central bank cannot meet all the foreign exchange needs of the country.” He continued, “Last year sanctions only targeted specialized banks and shipping while now trade too is halted. New trade policies must be implemented under these conditions. In the last six months of this year (the Iranian year begins on March 21^st) of the 27 billion Dollars imports about 11 billion Dollars were funded through non-banking channels which indicates that the central bank cannot put its foreign exchange into circulation like it used to.”

Egypt denied Iranian official entry to Gaza

Egyptian authorities refused the request of Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani to enter the Gaza Strip following Operation Pillar of Defense, according to Iranian media outlet Mashriq News.

Larijani was visiting the region in late November and planned to stop in Gaza, according to the report, but his request to pass through the Rafah crossing that connects Egypt to the Strip was denied.

Iran’s foreign minister, Ali Akbar Salehi, also requested permission to visit Gaza, reported Ynet, however he has yet to receive a reply from Cairo.
