Islamisten vs. Islamisten

Iran charges detention center jailers with murder

TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iran’s judiciary has charged three jail officials with the murder of three pro-reform Iranians detained after the disputed June 12 presidential election, the students news agency ISNA reported on Saturday.

Thousands of people protesting against the conduct of the election were arrested and some were beaten in detention. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ordered the closure of Kahrizak detention center in southern Tehran in July, after two detainees at the center died in hospital.

„Some 12 officials at Kahrizak detention center have been charged. Three of them have been charged with murder,“ ISNA quoted a judiciary statement as saying. „The date of their trial will be announced later,“ the statement added.

Brave Iranians ruin hate-U.S. fest

A’jad foes push hostage-anniversary rallies aside

NYP, by Amir Taheri — Yesterday marked the 30th anniver sary of the capture by Khomeinist „stu dents“ of the US Embassy in Tehran, triggering the 444-day hostage crisis.

The Iranian public seized the chance to reject the regime — even as the surviving hostage-takers have largely come to regret their actions.

For months, Iran’s state-controlled media had tried to build up the day as a „turning point“ for President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s troubled second term.

The occasion was supposed to highlight Ahmadinejad’s „victory over the American Great Satan“ and Washington’s implicit acceptance of Iran’s nuclear project in recent talks in Geneva and Vienna.

In a message on the eve of the anniversary, „Supreme Guide“ Ali Khamenei called on „true Muslims“ to show „unquenchable anger against the Great Satan.“ The newspaper Kayhan promised „the largest crowds in Iran’s history.“

Iran’s Quds Day rallies a shout against Zionist „cancer“: Khamenei

TEHRAN, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) — Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in his Eid al-Fitr sermon on Sunday that the high turnout of Quds Day rallies in Iran were „a loud and clear shout against the cancer of Zionism.“

Millions of Iranians took to the streets on Friday in different cities to mark the annual anti-Israel Quds Day march in solidarity with Palestinians.

Khamenei said the Quds Day rallies proved once again that the Islamic world does not accept tyranny and the West has failed to undermine Muslims‘ unity, Iran’s English-language satellite channel Press TV reported.

The massive rallies were indicative of the fact that those „conspiracies of the arrogant powers“ to weaken the Quds Day among Muslims in recent years were „futile,“ Khamenei said on the occasion of the Eid al-Fitr, a Muslim holiday that marks the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

On Friday’s rallies, a statement was issued in support of Palestinians, which said that the Iranians „support Palestinian resistance and Israel must avoid any new adventurism“ in the region.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad addressed a crowd gathered at Tehran University at the end of the rallies, reiterating that the Holocaust was a „myth“ created by the West to support Israel.

„They (the West) created the myth of the Holocaust,“ Ahmadinejad said. „They lied and then support the Jews,“ he added.

80 Political Parties Ask Supreme Leader To Deliver Qods Day Sermon – Protest Movement Leaders Will Participate In Qods Day Ceremonies

Over 80 Iranian political parties have asked Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to deliver the main sermon for Qods (Jerusalem) Day, tomorrow, September 18, instead of Ahmad Khatami and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, in order to prevent unrest among the public.

Protest movement leaders Mir Hossein Mousavi, Mehdi Karroubi, Mohammad Khatami, and Hassan Khomeini (the grandson of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini) have announced that they and their supporters will participate in Qods Day ceremonies, as a sign of their opposition to all forms of oppression and violence.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) has warned that they will deal harshly with disturbances of the peace.

“Iran reformist Web site names post-election victims”

Samira Simone CNNAn Iranian reformist Web site on Friday released the identities of 72 people it says were killed by government forces in the aftermath of Iran’s disputed presidential elections. The list posted on Norooz News‘ Web site is more than double government estimates, which put the death toll of protesters between 25 and 30. Norooz gives the names, ages and details surrounding most of the victims‘ deaths, which range from being shot by members of the Basij militia to being beaten to death in Tehran’s Evin prison.

Iranian government officials did not immediately respond to the claims by Norooz and could not be immediately reached for comment during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. Experts said that even though the opposition has always claimed that the post-election death toll is higher that the government figures, releasing the identities takes another swipe at the credibility of the current hard-line regime and forces its leaders to respond to allegations of wrongdoing.

„The opposition is aiming directly at the government,“ said Ali Alfoneh, a research fellow at the Washington-based American Enterprise Institute who has researched the relationship between Iranian civilians and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard. Alfoneh noted that releasing such a specific list puts pressure on Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei who, referring to reports of detainee rape and torture, has said, „The system has no intention to forgive or be courteous to any wrongdoers.” Den Rest des Beitrags lesen »

Arrangements à la Kayhan

‚Kayhan‘: U.S. Has Come To Terms With a Nuclear Iran*

The Iranian daily Kayhan, which is close to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, stated that the political crisis in Iran has no effect on its nuclear program, and that even the recent IAEA report shows that Iran has overcome technical problems in its uranium enrichment process.

It added that Iran is free to make any political decision regarding the nature of its nuclear program.

The paper also noted that threatening Iran with energy sanctions is aimed at forcing it to negotiate immediately, and that the U.S. has nearly come to terms with a nuclear Iran and is engaged in expanding its nuclear umbrella for the countries in the region.

At a meeting in Tehran yesterday with academics, university professors, and scientific elites in Tehran, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said that he is worried about Iranian universities‘ inefficiency in research in Islamic learning, and about the lack of competent teachers in Islamic knowledge, for the two million students studying the humanities in universities.

He said that most humanities are based on philosophies that believe in materialism, and that lack belief in Islamic and divine teachings, and warned that teaching them would lead to the promotion of non-belief in the divine teachings and of skepticism regarding the religious principles.
