Ob die Forderung nach Freilassung von Moussavi & Karrubi als Programmpunkt genügt? Die nächsten Demonstrationstermine:

Iran’s opposition coalition, the Coordination Council of the Green Path of Hope, has called on people to join next Tuesday’s protests for women’s rights on International Women’s Day.

In its fifth announcement published on Kaleme website, the Council said it is co-operating closely with women’s rights activists in advance of March 8 and it welcomes the transformation of these protests into a demand for the release of Zahra Rahnavard, Fatemeh Karroubi and their spouses, the opposition leaders MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi.

The Coordination Council of the Green Path of Hope, which has taken over organizing protests following the house arrest of the Iranian opposition leaders, had called on people to rally every Tuesday leading up to the Iranian New Year on March 21, to protest the detention of the Mousavi and Karroubi households.

Die neueste Linie der iranischen Propaganda läßt fast schon Mitleid mit den Konstrukteuren dieser virtuellen Realität aufkommen; nach den Demonstrationen des Dienstags – den dritten in Folge – behauptet das Regime nun störrisch, die Verhaftung Karrubis und Moussavis sei eine Erfindung der Volksmuhdschahedin, die beiden ehemaligen Präsidentschaftskandidaten von 2009 wohnten weiterhin zu Hause.

Zwei Verhaftungen und die Folgen. Was passiert heute im Iran? Passiert etwas? LiveBlog bei Dissected News:

Bold statements from the opposition. Mojtaba Vahedi, advisor to Mehdi Karroubi and the opposition, said that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the Supreme Leader, was instrumental in the decision to arrest Mir Hossein Mousavi, Zahra Rahnavard, and Mehdi and Fatemeh Karroubi. Vahedi also said that the head of Iran’s judiciary, Sadeq Larijani, disagreed with the decision but was overruled by the Supreme Leader.

What does this mean? For me, the biggest takeaway is that the opposition is getting far bolder in its statements. This is one step away from accusing Khamenei of breaking the law. It will be interesting to see if anyone associated with Larijani denies his objections to this decision.

Morgen wieder Protesttag im Iran!

Und nicht zuletzt im Zeichen der Verhaftungen (die natürlich offiziell immer noch keine sind) Moussavis und Karrubis könnte es spannend werden; die Frage wird allerdings erneut sein, ob es der „Grünen Bewegung“ gelingt, die Minderheiten mit an Bord zu holen. Aus Iranisch-Kurdistan und Aserbeidschan gibt es jedenfalls schon Rückmeldungen.

Auf der Suche nach Karrubi und Moussavi

Ob es unmittelbar so bedeutsam ist, sei dahingestellt, mittelbar ist es tatsächlich eine erste konkrete Veränderung des politischen Tableaus nach den Wahlen von 2009. Oder zumindest die Ankündigung einer Änderung. Irgendwer – vermutlich von den Pasderan – hat die beiden Symbolfuguren der „Grünen Bewegung“ probeweise (?) vom Spielfeld genommen und jetzt müssen alle darauf reagieren. Vom Hausarrest zum Arresthaus

Wie es aussieht, sind die beiden grünen Gallionsfiguren Karrubi und Moussavi mit ihren Ehefrauen von den Revolutionsgarden „weggebracht“ worden. Die Fiktion einer Nichtverhaftung der beiden Oppositionellen – durch die jüngsten Verschärfungen des „Hausarrests“ und durch die totale Isolation sowieso längst eine Farce – dürfte für das Regime nun schwer durchzuhalten sein. Die Verhaftung zugeben aber würde bedeuten interne Gräben weiter aufzureißen.

The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran reports from „an informed source“ that the two political dissidents are no longer under house arrest and have been moved to a “safe house”, controlled by the Revolutionary Guard, in an area close to Tehran. Presumably, if the story is true, Mousavi’s wife Zahra Rahnavard and Karroubi’s wife Fatemeh have also been moved.

Unliebsame neue Mitbewohner

Das Regime zieht die Schlinge wieder ein Stück mehr zu. Die Symbolfiguren der „Grünen Bewegung“, Karrubi und Moussavi stehen seit den Tagen des 25. Bahman unter Hausarrest. Vor Moussavis Haus hat man einen Metallztaun errichtet, bei Karrubi ist jetzt der Geheimdienst direkt eingezogen und „versorgt“ den Kleriker und seine Frau. Auch die Familie hat keinen Kontakt mehr.

Following the raid of Mehdi Karroubi’s residence by security forces two days ago in which Mehdi Karroubi and his wife Fatemeh were locked in different rooms while their house was searched and books and documents were confiscated, the latest reports point to the fact that security agents are now deployed inside the building and have cleared the street.

Dissected News: CNN’s Mitra Mobasherat is reporting that security forces on motorcycles have begun beating people on the sidewalks of Vali Asr Street. CNN’s Reza Sayah is reporting that at 4 PM local time about 15 people were beaten by security forces at Revolution Square (Enghelab Square).

The Iranian government has issued an implicit threat of violence if protesters take to the streets tomorrow, as AFP reports:

„We will confront them as per the law,“ Iran’s Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar was quoted as saying on state news agency IRNA when asked about Sunday’s expected rallies. „The agents of sedition and sedition leaders, who staged illegal rallies“ on February 14 with the help of „monafeghin, monarchists, rascals and thugs, should know that the interior ministry will confront“ them, Najjar added. Am kommenden Freitag will sich auf das aufgeschreckte Regime einem Tag des Hasses widmen und seine Unterstützer organisieren. Sie sind sehr unter Zugzwang. Für Sonntag – den 1. Esfand – rufen grüne Gruppen zu einem Demonstrationszug im Gedenken an die beiden getöteten Demonstranten vom letzten Montag auf.  Zwei Tote, die das Regime ja für sich reklamiert. Nach ihrer eigenen Logik können sie am Sonntag definitiv keine Demonstrationen dulden, ihre Rhetorik als Antwort auf den den 25. Bahman war bereits so schrill, daß sie kaum mehr steigerbar ist. Sie müßten eigentlich handeln. Aber die unterschiedlichen Lager rund um Khamenei sind sich offensichtlich nicht einig, wie mit Moussavi und Karrubi zu verfahren ist. Jede Entscheidung, die sie hier treffen könnten, würde zu weiterem Zugzwang führen. Ein Dilemma. Es sieht nach Zuspitzung aus.

Am nächsten Freitag wird gehasst

Ihre Propaganda war auch schon mal besser; der Erfolg der Demonstrationen am Montag hat das Regime irritiert, jetzt wird am nächsten Freitag staatstragend zurückdemonstriert – wo doch bereits am vergangenen Freitag die großen staatstragenden Demonstrationen stattgefunden haben. Aber die waren ja irgendwie gar nicht so groß. Sie rennen halt gerade der Weltgeschichte und dem Weltgericht hinterher.

[…] „The noble people of Tehran will take to Enghelab Square after Friday prayers with their solid and informed presence,“ the Islamic Propagation Coordination Council, which organises regime-backed programmes, said Wednesday.

It said those joining the rally will „scream out their hatred, wrath and disgust against the savage crimes and evil movements of sedition leaders, their Monafeghin (hypocrites) and their monarchist allies.“ (AFP)

They were too many! With batons and knives. There were maybe a thousand of us [in my crowd]. I’m really not sure. Maybe more. They never let us join. I had a close call today! I could have ended up in their custody. I was chased down by a group of anti-riot police and violent Basijis. We ran and hid in a small restaurant. The owner was trying to force us out but we begged and begged and he finally agreed to let us stay for a few minutes. They fired teargas and we used that to escape.

Die „Reformer“ machen Mut: Emruz News, the website close to the reformist Organization of Islamic Revolution Mojahedin, quoting Al-Arabiyah, reported that credible sources in Tehran have said that security forces have been ordered not to confront the marches if they are sizable, but simply try to control them.

Wenn das Regime in Teheran die Demonstration am Montag offiziell erlauben würde – es wäre ein Wunder. Kein Wunder also, was Reuters nun meldet – wobei das Drumherumreden und untergeordnete Chargen Vorschicken auch wieder bezeichnend ist; Selbstsicherheit sähe anders aus.

„These people are fully aware of the illegality of their demand and they know they will not receive a permit for staging a riot,“ Mehdi Alikhani-Sadr, deputy director of the Interior Ministry’s political bureau, was quoted by the semi-official Fars news agency as saying. It had always been highly unlikely the government would permit the rally organized by groups it considers seditious.

The order, to the Pasdaran Revolutionary Guard Corps, was dated on Sunday, 27 December. A fax containing the order was sent to Dutch-based Shahrzad News. via RNW

Die Vorbereitungen auf den „Al-Quds-Tag“ laufen auf Hochtouren. Damit der nicht wieder so ein Reinfall wird wie letztes Jahr. Da die grüne Frontfigur Karrubi angekündigt hat, am Marsch teilnehmen zu wollen, wurde sein Haus in der vierten Nacht in Folge „belagert“.

The group, which gathered from about 10 p.m. Tehran, chanted slogans against Mehdi Karroubi and in support of the Supreme Leader, threw rocks, and sprayed paint on the walls of the residential complex. The crowd broke windows and vandalised the building’s security cameras. Chants included “If only Khamenei would give us the order to fight” and “We congratulate the union of the United States and Karroubi”.

„Iran warnt Deutschland“

Das ist aber nur dritte oder vierte Garnitur, die da warnt, bzw. droht; so richtig aufdrehen mag man in Teheran bisher noch nicht gegen die EU und Deutschland im Besonderen. Darin liegt wohl der eigentliche Informationswert. (Rein sprachlich ist die Entscheidung des deutschen Dienstes des Teheraner Staatsrundfunks, von „Krawallmachern“ zu sprechen allerdings schon recht putzig).

Der stellvertretende Vorsitzende des Ausschusses für nationale Sicherheit und Außenpolitik im iranischen Parlament hat die Bundesregierung hinsichtlich der Aufnahme von iranischen Krawallmachern gewarnt.
Ein Sprecher des Bundesinnenministeriums in Berlin gab bekannt, dass Deutschland die ersten von insgesamt 50 iranischen Dissidenten aufgenommen hat. Damit bestätigte er einen Bericht des Magazins „Der Spiegel“. Hossein Ebrahimi sagte am Montag der Nachrichtenagentur Fars: „Deutschland hat den Krawallmachern, die nach der Präsidentschaftswahl im Juni 2009 in Iran Unruhe gestiftet hatten, Asyl gewährt, was die Beziehungen beider Länder negativ beeinflussen wird. Auf diese intervenierende und unvernünftige Entscheidung wird Iran in gebührender Zeit reagieren.“

Wie schaffen das die Repräsentanten der Islamischen Republik Iran nur immer? Diese Mischung aus Heuchelei, Zynismus und Größenwahn, diese absolut kongruente Widerwärtigkeit in dem was sie sind und was sie sagen.

Mohammad Javad Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights and a top Judiciary official, said on Friday that the Islamic Republic of Iran was the „flag bearer for human rights in the world“.

Speaking to the official Iranian news agency, IRNA, Larijani claimed, „The post-election (June 2009) incidents greatly betrayed the national interests of the country and cannot be compared even with such crimes as those that happened in Kahrizak prison and elsewhere. Kahrizak incidents were a private affair; whereas the post-election riots were a national crime“.

„The escalating crisis within“

Nichts wirklich Neues, aber ein treffender Kommentar und Überblick über die Agonie des Regimes und die jüngsten innenpolitischen Auseinandersetzungen.

But regime officials and the groups divide further and carry on with their own fights, while the problems get worse. Neither Khamenei nor anyone else within the system appears to have any idea about fixing these problems. As individuals and as groups, they are best at fanning the flames.

We have a large part of the Iranian population which is very unhappy. The regime has not done anything to ease the unease of the post-election protestors; if anything, it has done a lot to upset even more people. The economy is getting worse, and the sanctions — despite what Ahmadinejad may say — will not make things easier.

A dangerous power vacuum is emerging, as Khamenei is not able to lead in many cases. Having to clear up the mess after something goes wrong, his authority is waning. The President does not appear to have the required competence, and regime reformists are excluded from any involvement. For some, the answer emerges that sections of the Revolutionary Guard may hope to grab power.

But none of these political scenarios offers an imminent answer. For the in-fighting and soul searching reveals a vacuum beyond the political vacuum of power, the emptiness may now be that of the principles of the Islamic Republic.

Der nächste Termin für Straßenproteste?

Das Mitte März anstehende Neujahrsfest/Newroz könnte der Anlaß für neuerliche Straßenproteste gegen das Regime werden. Planet Iran weist hierzu auf die  ideologische Disposition der Islamischen Republik hin – traditionelle „altpersische“ Feste gelten tendentiell als unislamisch – , die den Feierlichkeiten zu dem Newroz vorausgehenden „Chahar-Shanbeh Souri“ diesmal besondere Sprengkraft verleihen könnten.

Since the beginning of the Islamic Revolution, the Iranian regime has done everything in it’s power to suppress Iranians from celebrating Persian festivals and celebrations, calling them pagan in an attempt to eradicate pre-Islamic Persian heritage. This specific celebration has always been an annual bone of contention and a sort of reckoning between the Iranian people who hold on steadfast and true to their Persian heritage and the Coup d’Etat regime whose official ‘cultural’ identity is an arcane hodgepodge of Messianic Islam and various other ideologies and movements thrown in for good measure.

As the wave of protests in Iran continues look for the next wave, on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 16th and 17th. Iranians throughout Iran have begun to prepare for this celebration and calls for protests has begun to ring out all across Iran.
