Die „Reformer“ machen Mut: Emruz News, the website close to the reformist Organization of Islamic Revolution Mojahedin, quoting Al-Arabiyah, reported that credible sources in Tehran have said that security forces have been ordered not to confront the marches if they are sizable, but simply try to control them. Kairo grüßt Teheran

Wael Ghonim, the Egyptian activist hailed by observers worldwide as a hero and one of the leaders of the Egyptian uprising, talked to the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran and thanked the people of Iran for organizing a demonstration on 14 February in solidarity with the people of Egypt and Tunisia, and thanked the Iranian civil rights movement. […]

„I would tell Iranians to learn from the Egyptians, as we have learned from you guys, that at the end of the day with the power of people, we can do  whatever we want to do.  If we unite our goals, if we believe, then all our dreams can come true,” is the prominent Egyptian activist’s message to Iranians on the threshold of the 14 February demonstrations.

Die Nachrichtenagentur der „Islamischen Republik“ verrät etwas über die feuchten Träume des Regimes: The protestors said they would stage a massive demonstration on February 11 during which they would first head to Mubarak’s palace and then to the US Embassy in the Egyptian capital.

Wieder so ein einsamer Höhepunkt an Machtdemonstration der „Islamischen Republik“; der Verbündete muß die eigenen Feiertage mitfeiern: The Islamic Republic of Iran Day was celebrated simultaneous with celebrations marking the 32nd anniversary of the glorious victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran and abroad, in Syria at the International Exhibitions Ground of Damascus. (Fars)

(Fars)

Der Innenminister der „Islamischen Republik“: “Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran is at the peak of potency and strength at national, regional and international levels,” Mohammad-Najjar said Wednesday, quoted by IRNA. (Press TV)

„Last year’s (post-election) sedition lasted for around eight months only, but it was much more dangerous than the (eight-year Iraqi) imposed war“, said Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari.
He said the seditious moves were aimed at diverting the Islamic Revolution from its right path and slowing the momentum that the Islamic Republic had gained.

Jaja, auch „the nature of threats against the Islamic Revolution of Iran has changed“.

Strikes are the most important aspect in my view“

Ein Interview mit dem ehemaligen Gewerkschaftsaktivisten Saeed Rahnema:

There is now a major economic crisis in Iran. Massive unemployment, terrible inflation (close to 30%), and at the same time, as you rightly said, there are many factories that cannot pay their employees. In terms of leadership there is political anarchy.

It is too early to tell if this is an orchestrated strategy of mass releases by the regime — an effective “amnesty” if those freed will just shut up, stop writing, and stay off the streets — but it follows Sunday’s carrot-and-stick statement by Tehran prosecutor Abbas Jafari Doulatabadi (see yesterday’s updates). Doulatabadi promises detainee releases on the eve of Iranian New Year but added that those who did not recent would be treated harshly.

The “stick” part of the strategy also has come out in a Rah-e-Sabz report:

Many of those arrested and released over the past few months have been contacted and told to be prepared for interviews, which are subsequently conducted inside Evin Prison….

Interrogators contacted these former prisoners, who have either received their initial verdict or are waiting to receive their verdict, and force them to participate in these interviews. A transcript of the Den Rest des Beitrags lesen »

Ahmadinejad urges trial of Israeli leaders / Iran Parliament considering severing ties with UK / Ahmadinejad urges Arabs to pressure Israel / ‚West using Israel as proxy to dominate Mideast‘ / Iran slams Norway over sacrilegious cartoons reprint / ‚Iran will take revenge on US over its crimes‘

Yesterday’s demonstrations were organized by a fractal grassroots whose structure is horizontal rather than hierarchical. That is to say, it has no leader. (Incidentally, neither Mousavi, Karoubi, or Khatami apparently took part in yesterday’s marches.) These were protests that saw Iranian flags whose white centers were bare, missing the iconic ‘Allah’ written in form of a red, martyr’s tulip. Gone was the silent marching of peaceful demonstrators holding up ‘V’s’ in the air. Instead, pockets of protesters confronted the Basij physically, and at times, overwhelmingly. And protests were not just limited to Tehran, either. Demonstrations have been verified in Mashhad, Shiraz, Rasht, Kermanshah, Hamedan, Arak, Kerman and Najafabad.

Most telling of all, chants of “Death to Khamenei” have now become a demonstration fixture, no longer the sacred red-line that protesters never dared to cross. Indeed, cross they have as his name was cursed repeatedly and as often as Ahmadinejad’s yesterday. Only a few months earlier, [Supreme Leader Ali] Khamenei could have caved in, given up Ahmadinejad as a sacrificial lamb, and saved himself, if only to survive in a weaker capacity. He no longer has the luxury of that option. Through his political ineptitude, the Islamic Republic has itself become illegitimate, and that inevitably means that at the very least, the doctrine of Velayat-e-Faqih must go. The regime has essentially placed itself in an unsustainable dynamic: it insistingly continues to alienate a larger and larger portion of the base from which it derives its legitimacy (the clerical class) while at the same time takes actions against the people that are far too unforgivable to allow for any future possibility of reconciliation, as [Hashemi] Rafsanjani was pushing for in September.

Teheran, 7. Dezember

“Patience is running out … 1979 is before our eyes”

Sehr lesenswert!

A strange sentiment crept in me today. A man in his late fifties was beaten by a group of people a meter away from me, and I enjoyed it. While I neither had the urge to join in, nor the time to think about it, the delight I took in seeing this man’s fearful face pushed me to encourage his assailants. I am glad I didn’t. In the mayhem, as he was begging them to stop, and kept yelling “why are you beating me?” I only thought to myself “you must be kidding”. He was a member of the Basij. Hobson’s Choice

The antigovernment protesters in Iran, who had been careful to distance themselves from America, have just asked the West not to sell them out.

Newsweek, by Babak DehghanpishehPresident Obama reacted standoffishly to this summer’s contested election in Iran, implying that he didn’t want to poison the cause of protesters by associating them too closely with the United States. As a result, he was flayed by democracy advocates who said his support was too tepid to inspire the Iranian protesters. Today, we learned that they may have a point.

This afternoon Iran celebrated the 30-year anniversary of the American embassy takeover in Tehran. The custom is for annual official demonstrations to denounce the Great Satan, but this year was different. Although the government had warned reform-minded protesters (who still come out on major occasions since the election unrest subsided) to stay home, tens of thousands of them hit the streets again today—to protest against their own government. They chanted, „Death to dictator,“ as usual, to protest President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s contested election in June. But, for the first time anyone can remember, they also yelled, „Obama, Obama! Either with them or with us!“ The „them“ in the chant means Ahmadinejad and the regime writ large.

Angehörige der Verhafteten von gestern wehren sich!

Reports from Tehran tell of clashes between families of yesterday’s detainees and security forces in Tehran in front of Vozara detention centre.

Radio Zamaneh has been told that over 50 people, all families of the detainees who were arrested yesterday in the Novemeber 4th ceremonies, had gathered since this morning in front of the detention centre to follow up on the situation of their loved ones. Reportedly some of yesterday’s detainees were transferred to this detention centre.
One of the mothers told Radio Zamaneh: “The officers beat the families and addressed them using obscenities and told some us that for now we shouldn’t be after the release of our children.”
An eyewitness report tells of the families impeding a bus that was trying to transfer detainees from the centre to Evin prison.
Human Rights Reporters Committee revealed that several buses and vans took detainees to Evin prison yesterday evening.

„This tactic was to make people think that they were bleeding“

Trying to stop the protestants from chanting “Down with the Dictator” and “Down with Russia”, the police were using speakers on their Toyotas to shout, “Down with USA”, “Death to Hypocrites”, and ” Death to Israel “. In return, protesters hooted and chanted, “Death to the Dictator and Russia” and ”Until Ahmadinejad is gone, every day is the same game”. […]

At Beheshti and Motahari Streets and Keshavarz Boulevard, people were shot by plastic bullets which were red-colored, spreading the ink as soon as they hit protestors. This tactic was to make people think that they were bleeding, spreading panic. […]

After the attack, people gathered in groups of 10 to 10 and cried out various slogans. Whenever one group was attacked, they spread out and formed other groups in different places. The protests were continuing as of 7:30 p.m. with people refusing to leave despite the widespread arrests and brutal attacks.

In Vali-e Asr Street, the crowd was endless. The police did not seem to be able to handle people. Heavy traffic moved towards Taleghani Street, and a large wave of people moved from Karimkhan and Hafez to Hafte Tir Square. Use of tear gas was reported; the people have captured and beat an anti-riot police official and started chanting, “Down with the Dictator” and “Khamenei is a Killer, his leadership is a void. […]

Based on the latest reports from Tehran (midnight local time), the military and the anti- riot forcesare in the main squares and streets. The sound of ALLAHU AKBAR can be heard from parts of the city and around the University of Tehran and Vali-e Asr and Vanak Squares. People are chanting slogans here and there.

“Obama, You’re Either with Them or with Us”

mirjavah20090917213803203

Press TV: The enemies of the revolution and the system and those defeated in the recent election are trying to exact revenge on the people who opened a new chapter in the country’s progress by creating the epic of June 12 and their unprecedented 85 percent turnout, by diversionary slogans, using deceptive and colorful symbols,“ the statement states.

„We warn the individuals and movements who are attempting to encourage the Zionist enemy that, if they intend to create any kind of disturbance or disorder in the magnificent Quds Day rally, then they will be confronted with the decisive confrontation of the brave children of the nation,“ the statement adds.

Press TV: Tehran’s Deputy Prosecutor, Ali-Ahmad Akbari, started reading out a “general indictment”, which centered on the argument that Washington was spreading false information about Iran through the internet.

“Since the beginning, the Islamic Revolution has faced all kinds of media schemes orchestrated by its enemies. Internal and foreign enemies have always tried to create a psychological war against the Islamic Republic by spreading rumors,” said Akbari.

„During Iran’s post-vote developments, internet was used as an effective tool to organize illegal gatherings and to spread false information.“ Den Rest des Beitrags lesen »
