Most of Iran’s breaches of a U.N. arms embargo have been illegal weapons deliveries to Syria, which Western diplomats say were to be passed on to Lebanese and Palestinian militants, a U.N. report says. […] 

„The Panel notes that most reported incidents of conventional arms-related violations involve Syria, which has a long and close relationship with Iran,“ said the confidential report, which was obtained by Reuters on Wednesday.

„In all such incidents inspected by the Panel, prohibited material was carefully concealed to avoid routine inspection and hide the identity of end-users,“ it said. […]

The report said Syria was the stated destination of the weapons in six out of nine incidents of conventional arms transfers reported to the panel. It said the panel „awaits Syria’s response to its queries.“

Authorities on Tuesday said the powerful explosive RDX was discovered in bags of powdered milk in a container in the southern port town of Gioia Tauro in the Calabria region.

Authorities said the RDX substance was destined for Syria.

Iran has sent Syria a sophisticated radar system that could threaten Israel’s ability to launch a surprise attack against Iran’s nuclear facilities, say Israeli and U.S. officials, extending an alliance aimed at undermining Israel’s military dominance in the region.

The Washington Post reported over the weekend that Hezbollah is moving long-range rockets and missiles away from the Israeli border and even north of Beirut in a move that would make a Third Lebanon War much more destructive over a much larger area than the Second Lebanon War in 2006. The previous conflict was mostly, but not exclusively, confined to the Hezbollah-controlled Shia areas in the south and in Beirut’s southern suburbs. Israel Defense Forces Brigadier General Aviv Kochavi says Hezbollah is now capable of firing rockets all the way to Tel Aviv from as far north as Beirut. Depending on where Hezbollah is placing its arsenal, taking out launch sites from the air might endanger America’s allies and Hezbollah’s enemies in the Christian, Sunni, and Druze parts of the country.

Das sich wirklich ungeheuer um die Menschenrechte bemuehende Menschenrechtskomitee der UN ist einmal seinem hauptberuflichen Auftrag, antiisraelische Resolutionen zu verfassen, nicht nachgekommen. Und hat auf Antrag Kanadas eine Resolution verabschiedet, die tatsaechlich von „serious, ongoing and recurring human rights violations“ im Iran spricht. Mit 74 Ja-Stimmen bei wohlgemerkt 48 Gegenstimmen und vollen 59 Enthaltungen.

Die Bewegung der Blockfreien, deren Vorsitz der Iran demnaechst uebernimmt, und die Organisation der Islamischen Konferenz haben umgehend die Stimme des Protestes erhoben.

„The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) opposes misusing human rights as a tool against other countries and rejects the resolution introduced by Canada as baseless,“ the Syrian ambassador to the UN said. The Cuban envoy speaking on behalf of the Non-aligned Movement also condemned the resolution, calling it a ‚politically-motivated move‘ used as a leverage to increase pressure on Iran. Press TV

Schön, wenn man gute Freunde hat. Mahmoud hat gute Freunde. Und sie stehen für die internationale Soldidarität der bedrängten Diktatoren ein. Syriens Staatschef war schon da, nun kommt der ganz große Führer des Sozialismus des 21. Jahrhunderts nach Teheran. Anfang September, nach Libyen, Rußland und Syrien fährt er auch noch. Die Mär von der kontraproduktiven Einmischung

Parteinahme zu Gunsten der iranischen Oppostition könnte kontraproduktiv sein – und das Regime stärken.

Dieser Satz, der in vergleichbarer Weise vielfach in deutschen Medien zu lesen war und ist, stammt von Rudolph Chimelli von der Süddeutschen Zeitung. Seine Begründung, warum die iranische „Oppostition“ es nicht mag, wenn man sie unterstützt,  ist dabei besonders ausgefeilt:

Iraner sind empfindlich. Viele von ihnen, auch wenn sie selber gegen das System sind, hören gute Ratschläge von außen nicht unbedingt mit Begeisterung.

Ja, die verprügelten oder inhaftierten Demonstranten sowie die unterdrückten Frauen und Homosexuellen dürften auch wahrlich keine andere Sorgen als „Ratschläge von außen“ haben. Zumal Chimellis Text selbst als Einmischung bezeichnet werden könnte, wirkt es doch so, als betreibe da jemand in einem deutschen Blatt Propaganda für das Mullah-Regime. Denn an die Chimelli zufolge übermäßig kritischen Merkel und Sarkozy gerichtet, heißt es:

Ein Freund, ein guter Freund

Kommen „gute Freunde“ aus Deutschland, zeichnen sie sich dadurch aus, die eigenen Freunde fortlaufend zu kritisieren – vor allem dann, wenn sie jüdisch sind, sowie natürlich immer nur zu deren eigenem Besten, versteht sich.

Kommen „gute Freunde“ indes aus Syrien, stellen sie sich bedingungslos hinter die eigenen Freunde:

Unmittelbar nachdem die Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika angekündigt haben, mit Syrien wieder volle diplomatische Beziehungen aufzunehmen, hat Syrien den Westen davor gewarnt, sich in die inneren Angelegenheiten Irans einzumischen. Die Präsidentschaftswahlen seien „fair“, „offen“ und „transparent“ verlaufen. Das Ergebnis sei zu respektieren.

„Jede Wette auf das Ende der islamischen Regierung und der Islamischen Republik Iran ist nicht nachvollziehbar. Die Präsidentschaftswahlen waren nicht gefälscht. Die ganz große Mehrheit hat sich für Präsident Ahmadineschad entschieden“, sagte Syriens stellvertretender Ministerpräsident für Wirtschaft, Abdullah Dardari, im Interview mit der Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung.

Wer über den gekonnten Witz der „fairen“ und „offenen“ „Wahlen“ hinwegliest, muss diese Worte auch als (erneute) Absage an Chef-Appeaser Barack Hussein Obama verstehen. Oder besteht doch Hoffnung, auf einen Kurswechsel in Damaskus? Lesen Sie selbst:
