Interessante Zwischenlandung

Die Überschrift der Welt scheint doch ein wenig irreführend: Nuklear-Angst – Türkei zwingt Flugzeug zur Landung. Geheimdienste sind nicht gerade für ihre hysterische Nuklearangst bekannt, und um eine Geheimdienstgeschichte wird es sich handeln. Erst das von den Israelis aufgebachte Waffenschiff im Mittelmeer, jetzt eine erzwungene Zwischenlandung in der Türkei. Was verschiebt der Iran da grade und warum klappt es offensichtlich so überhaupt nicht? Mal sehen, was da noch kommt. Das klingt jedenfalls spannend:

Die türkischen Behörden haben ein iranisches Frachtflugzeug auf dem Weg nach Syrien zur Landung gezwungen. Wie aus türkischen Sicherheitskreisen verlautete, gab das Außenministerium wegen des Verdachts auf Waffen oder Nuklearmaterial an Bord eine entsprechende Anweisung.

Die Frachtmaschine wurde demnach zu dem Flughafen der südosttürkischen Stadt Diyarbakir geleitet. Zudem wurden zwei türkische Kampfjets in Bereitschaft versetzt. Nach der Landung sei mit der Durchsuchung der Maschine begonnen worden, hieß es.

Hausarrest, Feuchte Träume, lauter Höhepunkte

Nein, nein, das Regime hat keine Angst vor nächstem Montag: Karoubi steht de facto unter Hausarrest.

Die Nachrichtenagentur der „Islamischen Republik“ verrät etwas über die feuchten Träume des Regimes: The protestors said they would stage a massive demonstration on February 11 during which they would first head to Mubarak’s palace and then to the US Embassy in the Egyptian capital. (Irna) Und wenn sie dann noch die US-Botschaft besetzten, ist endlich alles so wie 1979. Aber sicher.

Wieder so ein einsamer Höhepunkt an Machtdemonstration der „Islamischen Republik“; der Verbündete muß die eigenen Feiertage mitfeiern: The Islamic Republic of Iran Day was celebrated simultaneous with celebrations marking the 32nd anniversary of the glorious victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran and abroad, in Syria at the International Exhibitions Ground of Damascus. Iran’s Position In Advance Of 5+1 Talks

In an interview, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki told Iran’s official news agency IRNA that his country was ready to discuss a nuclear fuel exchange deal only along the lines that it proposed in the Tehran Declaration.

Mottaki told IRNA that Iran had not received any new offers from the U.S. for the exchange of fuel and that such reports were „games“ played by the Western media.

He underlined Iran’s stance on any fuel swap deal with the West and pointed out that any such deal will be acceptable only within the framework of the Tehran Declaration.

Die Türkei hat sich in den letzten Wochen und Monaten zunehmend der iranischen Achse angenähert. Diese Tatsache vom Westen vehement ignoriert wird, aber bald steht die Türkei wohlmöglich vor der Entscheidung, den Bruch mit dem Westen endgültig zu vollziehen oder – was weitaus schlimmer wäre – weiterhin zweigleisig zu fahren:

Es steht zu befürchten, dass die Türkei dem Westen – insbesondere: den USA bzw. deren derzeitigem Präsidenten – folgende Bedingungen diktieren wird:

According to diplomats familiar with the matter, Turkey is asking that NATO not name any specific country as the source of a missile-attack threat. It also seeks to ensure that all of Turkey’s territory is covered by the system and that Turkey has access to all data and a measure of control over the decision to fire. These people say Ankara also wants guarantees that non-NATO members, specifically Israel, wouldn’t gain access to the data.

Große Hilfe unter Freunden

Während man in Deutschland noch darüber jubelt, dass Erdogans AKP künftig noch mehr Macht hat, hat die Türkei angekündigt, den Handel mit der „Islamischen Republik“ innerhalb der nächsten fünf Jahre zu verdreifachen:

Turkey Cozies Up to Hizbullah with Iran

Nicht nur der Libanon scheint dieser Tage endgültig an die iranisch-syrische Achse verloren zu gehen:

Turkey has offered to join Iran in sending weapons to Hizbullah in Lebanon, with help from Syria, according to a report published in an Italian newspaper.

The daily Corriere Della Sera quoted sources Wednesday evening who said that Turkey will “send sophisticated weapons, rockets and guns to Syria that will end up in Lebanon.”

The sources went on to say that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards would “facilitate the transition, ensure safety, watch loads on the routes, and provide support to the border.” According to the report, Iran intends to build a network that will supply the Gaza-based Hamas terrorist organization with weapons as well, similar to the weapons network that operates in the Sudan.

The newspaper also reported that Turkish and Iranian intelligence heads Hakan Fidan and Hossein Taeb allegedly met to discuss logistics and relations between the two nations.

Turkey to continue sending fuel to Iran

So viel zu einer möglichen „konstruktiven“ Rolle der Türkei:

Ankara will continue to permit Turkish companies to sale gasoline to Iran, despite US sanctions against fuel exports to Iran, Reuters reported on Wednesday.

„If the preference of the private sector is to sell these products to Iran, we will help them,“ said Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz.

Tupras, Turkey’s sole oil refine and gasoline exporter, expressed little fear of retribution from US Treasury officials who have the power to ban sanctions violators from accessing the US banking system or receiving US contracts.

„For us, Iran is more important than America because we get crude oil from them. We don’t get anything from America,“ a Tupras official was quoted as saying.

Turkey importance as a gasoline supplier to Iran has increased over the past month as US sanctions have deterred other foreign suppliers.

Iran’s Nuclear Coup

What a fiasco. That’s the first word that comes to mind watching Mahmoud Ahmadinejad raise his arms yesterday with the leaders of Turkey and Brazil to celebrate a new atomic pact that instantly made irrelevant 16 months of President Obama’s „diplomacy.“ The deal is a political coup for Tehran and possibly delivers the coup de grace to the West’s half-hearted efforts to stop Iran from acquiring a nuclear bomb.

Full credit for this debacle goes to the Obama Administration and its hapless diplomatic strategy. Last October, nine months into its engagement with Tehran, the White House concocted a plan to transfer some of Iran’s uranium stock abroad for enrichment. If the West couldn’t stop Iran’s program, the thinking was that maybe this scheme would delay it. The Iranians played coy, then refused to accept the offer.

But Mr. Obama doesn’t take no for an answer from rogue regimes, and so he kept the offer on the table. As the U.S. finally seemed ready to go to the U.N. Security Council for more sanctions, the Iranians chose yesterday to accept the deal on their own limited terms while enlisting the Brazilians and Turks as enablers and political shields. „Diplomacy emerged victorious today,“ declared Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, turning Mr. Obama’s own most important foreign-policy principle against him. Am Ende wird das ganze auf den Punkt gebracht:

The deal will, however, make it nearly impossible to disrupt Iran’s nuclear program short of military action. The U.N. is certainly a dead end. After 16 months of his extended hand and after downplaying support for Iran’s democratic opposition, Mr. Obama now faces an Iran much closer to a bomb and less diplomatically isolated than when President Bush left office.

Israel will have to seriously consider its military options. Such a confrontation is far more likely thanks to the diplomatic double-cross of Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Brazil’s Lula, and especially to a U.S. President whose diplomacy has succeeded mainly in persuading the world’s rogues that he lacks the determination to stop their destructive ambitions.

Another Humiliation for the Obama Administration

Während deutsche Medien nicht müde werden, Irans mit Hilfe Brasiliens und der Türkei gegangenen jüngsten Schritt in Richtung nuklearer Bewaffnung als „Kompromiss“ zu feiern, erinnert Barry Rubin mit Recht daran, dass das Ganze nur eine erneute Demütigung für die Obama-Regierung und ihre Außenpolitik darstellt:

Lula has tried to save Iran from sanctions by putting together a phony diplomatic deal on Tehran’s terms. And guess who his partner is in trying to sabotage sanctions and help Tehran? Why that „moderate Muslim“ regime in Turkey for which the Obama Administration has had so much praise!

Now Lula has just visited Tehran in person and proposed that Brazil should provide Iran with equipment and parts to modernize its oil production while Iran assists Brazil in deep-water drilling efforts in the Atlantic Ocean. Lula also said he would urge Brazilian companies to invest in Iranian refineries. There can be no doubt that Brazil will oppose sanctions in the UN.

Seems Lula is a „great admirer“ of the Islamist regime.

So once again—as with Venezuela, Iran, Syria, and a lot of other countries, Obama’s efforts to suck up to radical regimes has backfired in making them more confident about defying U.S. policies and interests. At the same time, his backing, praise, and at times money has had no effect on making them more friendly to Washington.

Have you noticed that all of America’s enemies–treated so nicely by the Obama Administration–have thrown pies in its face, while none of America’s real friends–even when treated shabbily–do so? As I’ve previously suggested, George W. Bush’s „you’re with us or against us“ had serious flaws, but Obama’s „if you’re against us we’re with you“ is worse.

Wunsch nach Iran-Sanktionen: Erdogan lässt Obama abblitzen

Washington (RPO). Der türkische Ministerpräsident Recep Tayyip Erdogan hat sich nicht amerikanischem Druck gebeugt, Sanktionen gegen den Iran mitzutragen. Auf einer Pressekonferenz im Weißen Haus sagte Erdogan nach einem Treffen mit US-Präsident Barack Obama am Montag, der Iran sollte mit diplomatischen Mitteln von seinem umstrittenen Atomprogramm abgebracht werden. Er habe Obama die Bereitschaft der Türkei bekundet, zwischen dem Iran und dem Westen in dieser Frage zu vermitteln. Die USA haben angedeutet, schon in Kürze neue Sanktionen gegen Teheran im UN-Sicherheitsrat anzustreben, in dem die Türkei zurzeit Mitglied ist.

Obama Asks Turkey’s Erdogan to Back Iran Sanctions

(Bloomberg) — President Barack Obama will press Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, one of NATO’s two Muslim members, for more support in curbing Iran’s nuclear program and rebuilding Afghanistan.

In a White House meeting today, Obama will probe Turkey’s willingness, as a member of the United Nations Security Council, to back new sanctions against Iran, an administration official said. The U.S. also wants Turkey to increase its aid to Afghanistan, according to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Erdogan’s government has been expanding trade ties with Iran, which supplies about 20 percent of Turkey’s natural gas. He visited Tehran in October and said that Iran’s nuclear program, which the U.S. suspects is a cover for weapons development, is “peaceful.”

Erdogan gegen Sanktionen (und ergo: für die Barbarei)

Nachdem der türkische Ministerpräsident Erdogan die Islamische Republik Iran im Allgemeinen und deren Präsidenten Mahmud Amadinedschad im Speziellen als „Freunde“ bezeichnet hat, legt er nun noch einmal nach:

Der türkische Ministerpräsident Tayyip Erdogan hat internationale Sanktionen im Atomkonflikt mit Iran in scharfen Worten verurteilt. In einer im Fernsehen übertragenen Rede bezeichnete er die Strafmaßnahmen am Samstag als arrogant und erhob im Gegenzug die Forderung an Staaten wie die USA, Großbritannien und Frankreich, ihre Atomwaffen abzugeben.

„Diejenigen, die diese arroganten Sanktionen wollen, müssen als erste diese Waffen abgeben“, sagte er. „Wir teilen diese Haltung mit unseren iranischen Freunden, unseren Brüdern.“

In Zusammenhang mit der jüngsten Abkehr der Türkei von Israel liegt der Schluss nahe, dass sich da jemand mit Nachdruck für die EU empfehlen will.

Besuch bei Freunden

Die Türkei. Ein verläßliches reformorientiertes Land, ein Mitglied der humanistischen Wertegemeinschaft, das besonders schnell in die EU aufgenommen werden sollte. So gesehen der Iran eigentlich auch.

„Your clear stance against the Zionist regime (of Israel) produced positive effects in the world of Islam and the entire world, and no doubt this position of yours gladdened all nations,“ Ahmadinejad said in a meeting with visiting Turkish prime minister.

Erdogan arrived in Tehran Monday night heading a high-ranking delegation which includes several cabinet ministers, parliament members, representatives of the private sector and media.

„The reality is that the Zionist regime is a threat to all nations, and if it finds the chance, it will annex all regional states,“ Ahmadinejad went on saying.

„It (Israel) does not want any other powerful state in the region,“ he noted.

Vetter Erdogan

Die Islamische Republik hat wenige wirklich gute Freunde in der Staatenfamilie. Mögen die einen sie sanft therapeutisch wie ein gestörtes Kind behandeln, verhalten sich andere Länder mehr wie hilflose Eltern angesichts eines jähzornigen Kindes, das sich im Supermarkt schreiend auf den Boden wirft. Man behandelt den Iran so keineswegs aus Restbeständen kolonialen Hochmuts, sondern weil diesese „Republik“ sich freiwillig und programmtisch selbst so verhält wie nicht ganz zurechnungsfähig. Und wenn Mahmoud wieder Krach macht, dann ist es die Debilogang um Hugo, die laut gröhlt, Kim ist irgendwie gerade mit dem eigenen Überleben beschäftigt, sonst würde er mitmachen. Syrien bezahlt man dafür, daß es lau mitklatscht, China und Rußland geben die Onkels, die mit am Familientisch sitzen, und unbeteiligt an die Decke gucken, wenn Junior wieder Suppe spuckt, ihm aber unter dem Tisch heimlich Bonbons zustecken.

Es gibt nun allerdings noch den Vetter Erdoan, ein Vetter mit hohen Ambitionen, und der spielt langsam ein besonders unheimliches Spiel.

Turkey’s „Radikal“ newspaper on Sunday reported that Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s strong comments against Israel’s nuclear program was similar to his „one minute“ stance in Davos in January when he walked out of a televised debate with his Israeli counterpart Shimon Peres.

Doch warum genau die Türkei ein solches System braucht, blieb offen.

Nach Angaben von Außenminister Ahmet Davutoğlu wollen die Türkei und Iran ihre Kooperation im Antiterrorkampf ausbauen. Bei seinen Kontakten im Iran kam Davutoğlu mit dem iranischen Staatspräsidenten Mahmud Ahmedinechad sowie dem iranischen Außenminister Manucehr Mottaki zusammen.

Davutoğlu sagte, beide Seiten hätten beschlossen, im Kampf gegen den Terror die Beziehungen zwischen den Sicherheitskräften zu intensivieren. Darüber hinaus gebe es im wirtschaftlichen Bereich große Kooperationsmöglichkeiten.
