Iran: „Immer bereit zum Krieg“

Aus dieser Headline der WELT lässt sich doch eigentlich nur ein Schluss ziehen: Das Mullah-Regime hat schon seit Jahren auf eine mögliche militärische Konfrontation mit Israel und dem Westen hingearbeitet; also genau das, wovor wir auf unserer Webseite Free Iran Now! seit 2009 warnen (ich seit 2007 bis heute). Was sonst?

Und jetzt schreiben viele Kommentatoren der angeblich so wichtigen Opinion-Leader in den internationalen Tageszeitungen wie im antisemitisch geeichten Blatt The Guardian: „Ah und Oh. Wow: Das hätten wir nie gedacht.“

Das Nuklear-Programm des Mullah-Regimes wurde schon vor 2005 initiiert, also zu Zeiten, als der Ägypter Mohammed Baradei Chef der IAEA wurde! Er hatte also alle geheimdienstlich relevanten Informationen ins Amt übernommen. Ich hatte das schon einmal angesprochen.

Im Falle eines israelischen Angriffs ist der Iran nach den Worten von Außenminister Ali Akbar Salehi „immer bereit zum Krieg„. Drohungen seien für sein Land nicht neu, sagte Salehi der englischsprachigen türkischen Zeitung „Hürriyet Daily News“: „Seit acht Jahren hören wir israelische Drohungen. Unsere Nation ist vereint. “ Das iranische Staatsfernsehen veröffentlichte eine Warnung: Israel müsse im Falle eines Angriffs mit Konsequenzen in „apokalyptischem“ Ausmaß rechnen. Die iranische Raketenindustrie sei in der Region die beste und in der Welt eine der besten.

Wie der Westen gerettet werden könnte

Wenn man nicht wüßte, dass diese Menschen völlig unironisch sind, dass sie morden und unterdrücken, und im Zweifel dumm wie totes Holz sind; ja wenn man das alles nicht wüßte, könnte man die jüngste Teheraner Freitagspredigt  als comedy durchgehen lassen. Die Frage bleibt, ob sich angesichts von Ahmedinejads jüngsten Äußerungen und diesem Unfug hier eine neue „Rhetorik“ des Regimes abzeichnet; nachdem man den Westen zuerst totgedroht hat, um dann zu konstatieren, dass man selbst ja bereits schon Supermacht sei, bietet man nun dem Westen eine Art Juniorpartnerrolle an.  Sie sind ja nicht nur größenwahnsinning, sie sind irrsinnig.

An Iranian cleric said on Friday that the Islamic Republic intends to rescue the American people from the two parties that have ruled the country in the past. „We should focus our efforts on freeing Americans from under the yoke of the two ruling parties (Democratic and Republican) in the United States. We want to save the West and spread morality in the world,“ Tehran’s interim Friday Prayers leader Hojjatoleslam Kazem Seddiqi said.

„We should concentrate our efforts on the international revolution and rescuing nations from the rule of arrogant powers,“ he added.

US softens Iran sanctions plan to win support: report

WASHINGTON (AFP) – The United States has stepped back from a series of harsh measures against Iran and softened proposed UN sanctions to win the backing of China and Russia, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

The newspaper said proposals that would have effectively closed international airspace and waters to Iranian state-owned air cargo and shipping lines had been scrapped.

The proposed package of sanctions had also been stripped of plans targeting insurance for certain Iranian companies and the sale of Iranian bonds.

Mr. Ahmadinejad appealed to President Obama to open his heart to change, essentially saying Tehran would reach out a hand if Washington would unclench its fist. However, he also underscored the growing irrelevance of the United States to influence events in the region. This is true. The limited courses of action being discussed in Washington are irrelevant. The Iranian nuclear issue will be decided by others. Tehran will pursue its revolutionary interests. Israel will act to guarantee its national survival. Other states in the region will do what they need to do as events unfold.

The United States should begin planning for the inevitable. Conflict is coming; it won’t be managed away.

Feb. 1 (Bloomberg) — The U.S. military is drawing up a new air-sea battle plan in response to threats such as China’s persistent military build-up and Iran’s possession of advanced weapons, according to the Pentagon’s latest strategy review.

The Air Force and Navy are seeking more effective ways of ensuring continued access to the western Pacific and countering potential threats to American bases and personnel, according to the Quadrennial Defense Review to be released later today.

The joint Air Force-Navy plan would combine the strengths of each service to conduct long-range strikes that could utilize a new generation of bombers, a new cruise missile and drones launched from aircraft carriers. The Navy also is increasing funding to develop an unmanned underwater vehicle, according to the report.

Die Schlagzeile in der Iran daily gestern anläßlich des Besuchs des Präsidenten des Sklavenhalterstaates Mauretanien im Iran war bezaubernd schlicht: President condems Israel as evil.

Nicht, daß sie nicht dauernd sagen würden, was sie umtreibt. Warum sie es gerade jetzt wieder so laut dahersagen müssen, steht auf einem anderen Blatt. Das hat damit zu tun, daß sie doch ein wenig in Schwierigkeiten stecken, und wenn es all die bösen enemies da draußen nicht gäbe, was könnten sie dann noch in Mikrophone plappern. Leader: US, Israel worst of all enemies! Und wer nicht mehr in Mikrophone plappert, der ist ja schon halb tot.

Fox News, GRETA VAN SUSTEREN — This is ominous. Why is Iran in Iraq tonight? Iranian forces seized an oil well in Iraq on a cross-border raid. The oil field is in southeastern Iraq, about 200 miles from Baghdad. Iranian troops reportedly raised an Iranian flag at the well after seizing it.

Joining us live is former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton. Ambassador, now what? I mean, what — first of all, maybe tell us a little bit more about this.

JOHN BOLTON, FORMER U.S. AMBASSADOR TO THE U.N.: Well, this, I think, is actually potentially fairly serious. I don’t get excited about everything that happens, but this — the timing of this and what it represents I think is a real potential signal from Iran that they’re flexing their muscles, throwing their weight around.

Let’s not forget these two countries were at war with each other for most of the 1980s, a costly, bloody war. For Iran now to even go 500 yards into Iraqi territory to seize an oil well is really quite a provocative act. And the Iraqi reaction so far is to simply say, We want to resolve it by diplomatic means. But I think they’ve got to be thinking, Is this the first step, are there other provocations coming? I think this is a very, very serious development, combined now with missile launches by Iran, with the continued progress in their nuclear weapons program. Read more here…

Obama following in Bush footsteps: Iran president

Google — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accused Barack Obama of following the footsteps of George W. Bush since entering the White House, saying he had missed a chance to make a clean break.

Ahmadinejad, in Copenhagen for a UN climate change summit, said he had welcomed the „slogans“ of change when Obama was elected US president a year ago but he had not lived up to expectations. Read more here…

“The oil field is in disputed territory in between Iranian and Iraqi border forts,” he said, adding that such incidents occur quite frequently.

Symbolic Gestures Won’t Deter This Regime

Unwilling to contemplate pre-emptive war, some may believe the only alternative is pre-emptive surrender. It is not. It is still possible to raise the cost of Iran’s nuclear ambitions by fully applying the sanctions already approved, but not implemented by the UN resolution and envisaged by the IAEA’s own rules. These include tight control of exports of all dual-use material and equipment to Iran, the inspection and impounding of suspect cargos on board ships and aircraft, and the termination of Iranian access to credit facilities and banking services used for its illicit nuclear project.

The full implementation of existing resolutions would send a signal to Tehran that its “cheat-and-retreat” strategy is not cost-free.

Obama had hoped to kick this can down the road with a mixture of negotiations and symbolic gestures. The latest revelations may make it difficult to continue that tactic. What he faces is a choice between accepting Iran as a nuclear power and taking action to stop it from crossing the threshold.

Diesmal könnte es sich um ein ziemlich fatales Leck im iranischen Atomprogramm handeln. Das von der Times publizierte Geheimpapier zur Entwicklung eines Zündmechanismus für die iranische Bombe  schlägt jedenfalls langsam durch. AFP meldet:

When asked to elaborate on the revelation of a nuclear trigger, Crowley, the assistant secretary of state for public affairs, said: „I will not discuss intelligence matters.“

But when pressed further, he said the US government will investigate the report.

And when asked to give his opinion of the news report, Crowley first replied „no“ before adding „it was a fine piece of journalism. Enough said.“

Die Bewertung der Unterlagen durch das Institute for International Science and Security – das sie für die Times geprüft hat – ist vorsichtig:

Some have characterized this document as a smoking gun on Iran’s weaponization activities.  It might in fact be that. But ISIS urges caution and further assessment of this document, in particular to confirm the document’s date and with how the document fits with other information regarding Iran’s nuclear weaponization activities both prior to 2003 and any work afterwards.  The document could describe work to develop and maintain a capability rather than being part of a program authorized to build nuclear weapons.  The document does not mention nuclear weapons and we have seen no evidence of an Iranian decision to build them.  On the other hand, doing the kind of work described in this document is a far cry from the common belief that Iran stopped work on nuclear weapons in 2003 and has not restarted such work.  Even without a decision to build nuclear weapons, this type of work is consistent with a plan to have all the research and development in place in the process of creating a reliable nuclear warhead for a ballistic missile such as the Shahab 3.

„Hit Iran where it hurts“

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, republikanische Kongressabgeordnete, spricht sich in der Los Angeles Times für harte Sanktionen gegenüber Iran sowie die Unterstützung demokratischer iranischer Regime-Gegner aus:

The IAEA should immediately cease all technical assistance to Iran and should suspend Iran’s membership privileges in the organization. Until such actions are taken, the U.S. should not send one more penny of taxpayer funds to the IAEA that benefit Iran’s nuclear program.

The regime in Tehran knows only hardball, and nothing less than overwhelming and crippling sanctions could produce a reversal of its threatening programs and policies.

That is why the United States must be prepared to act alone, if necessary, and with every weapon in its political and economic arsenal. The Iran Refined Petroleum Sanctions Act is one such tool. This legislation, which I coauthored, has the support of more than 300 members of the House, and it is urgent that this bill reaches the president’s desk before the end of the year. It targets one of Iran’s major weaknesses — namely, its dependency on foreign gasoline and other refined petroleum products. By placing financial sanctions on U.S. and foreign companies providing these crucial resources, Iran’s economic lifeline would be severed and its already weak economy would crumble.

But these sanctions must be coupled with action on all fronts. The U.S. must also specifically reject Iran’s claim to an inalienable right to produce nuclear fuel. We must strengthen existing laws to prevent the transfer of prohibited materials and technology to Iran. Responsible nations should impose a ban on travel by senior Iranian regime officials and their families to Europe and the U.S. We should strengthen bilateral and multilateral efforts to shut down accounts of those doing business with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps or its affiliated entities; deny Tehran access to euros and U.S. dollars; and freeze the assets of those who violate U.N. sanctions on Iran. Concurrently, we should offer our full support to the Iranian people and increase funding for Iran democracy programs.

The weakness of recent actions has been daunting. The IAEA mustered only a weak censure of Iran; the U.N. Security Council has said that it was disappointed; the White House has maintained its wait-and-see approach; and the Iran Refined Petroleum Sanctions Act continues to languish because many remain true believers in the mirage of engagement. However, the threat is immediate, and the time to act has arrived.

Jetzt sparen sie schon an der Propaganda

Ein Grundpfeiler der  „Islamische Republik“, ideologisch wie praktisch, ist der Export von Terror und Propaganda in alle Welt. Und das hat den Iran seit 30 Jahren sehr viel Geld gekostet. Milliarden. Die neueste Entscheidung des „Wächterrates“ als oberstem „Verfassungsgremium“, umgehend eine „Parlamentsresolution“ zu kippen, die läppische 20 Millionen Dollar zur Unterstützung antiamerikanischer und antibritischer Propaganda raushauen wollte, ist so gesehen schlicht bizarr. Besonders die „verfassungsmässige“ Begründung des ganzen.

Die Hintergründe sind noch unklar, wer immer hier grade intern gegen wen geschossen hat, das Zwangskorsett der „Islamischen Republik“ kracht und splittert fortwährend.

Statement von US-Regierung

Robert Gibbs, Sprecher der US-Regierung, hat bezüglich der andauernden Prosteste und deren Niederschlagung durch das Regime Folgendes verkündet:

The United States also remains deeply concerned about the deteriorating human rights situation in Iran. We continue to call on the Iranian government to end the use of violence and persecution against those who seek to peacefully exercise universal rights, and to abide by its international obligations, including under the International Covenant on Civil and Political rights.

Bezüglich des iranischen Atomwaffenprogramms äußerte sich Gibbs wie folgt:

The United States echoes the grave concerns expressed by the European Council today regarding Iran’s nuclear program, and is united with our international partners in calling on Iran to comply fully with its international obligations.

We, alongside our partners, remain committed to working with Iran to find a peaceful diplomatic resolution to the international community’s concerns with Iran’s nuclear program. To date, Iran has not taken advantage of the many opportunities to begin to build trust and confidence, including the IAEA’s Tehran Research Reactor proposal. Instead, the Iranian leadership’s actions over the past several months have increased the international community’s concerns about Iran’s claims that its nuclear intentions are exclusively peaceful. This was noted most recently by the IAEA Director General’s report, and reaffirmed by the IAEA’s Board of Governors in a decisive vote on November 27.

Iran has also failed to uphold its Geneva commitment to have a further meeting with the P5+1 to discuss its nuclear program. The offer of constructive engagement remains on the table, and we urge Iran to take concrete steps toward this course.

However, if Iran continues to fail to bring its nuclear program into full compliance with the requirements of the United Nations Security Council and the IAEA, there will be consequences and we will be consulting closely with our partners to ensure those consequences are credible. We will continue to assess Iran’s responses, and together with our partners will take appropriate measures in keeping with our common approach to the Iranian nuclear program.

Via public and private channels, the Obama Administration has received several appeals in recent weeks to take a stronger stand against human-rights abuses in Iran, avoid military action and impose more aggressive and rapid-fire sanctions against the Revolutionary Guards and its vast business interests.

US moves to seize 4 Iran-linked sites

JPost — In what could be one of the biggest counterterrorism seizures in US history, federal prosecutors sought to take over four US mosques and a New York City skyscraper owned by a Muslim organization suspected of being controlled by the Iranian government.

Prosecutors on Thursday filed a civil complaint in federal court against the Alavi Foundation, seeking the forfeiture of more than $500 million in assets.

The assets include bank accounts; Islamic centers consisting of schools and mosques in New York, Maryland, California and Houston; more than 100 acres (40 hectares) in Virginia; and a 36-story Manhattan office tower. Confiscating the properties would be a sharp blow against Iran, which the US government has accused of bankrolling terrorism and trying to build a nuclear bomb.

Nur zur Erinnerung: ja, eigentlich war letzten Freitag vor einer Woche der Termin für eine Entscheidung über das Anreicherungsabkommen. Ja, genau, die Iraner haben dann gesagt sie bräuchten noch ein paar Tage. Am Donnerstag letzter Woche wollten sie sich schlußendlich äußern. Da gab es auch eine informelle Stellungnhame gegenüber der Internationalen Atomenergiebhörde  – es war weder ein Ja noch ein Nein, ein Vielleicht eigentlich auch nicht. Der Iran hat bis heute nicht offiziell geantwortet. Und alle mahnen wie seit Jahr und Tag. Und erklären sie wollten nicht ewig warten – vermutlich nur bis zum jüngsten Tag. Selbst el Baradei sagt nun erneut, die Iraner sollten sich endlich äußern. Selbst der.

Allerdings steht zu vermuten, daß allein schon die innenpolitisch angespannte Lage eine iranische Entscheidung intern zur Zeit gar nicht möglich macht. Einen sehr souveränen Eindruck gibt das iranische Verwirrspiel dabei gerade auch nicht ab. Es ist bloß die Schwäche und Standpunktlosigkeit der Gegenseite, auf die sie bauen können.

WSJ – One sign that an adversary isn’t serious about negotiating is when it rejects even your concessions. That seemed to be the case yesterday when Iran gave signs it may turn down an offer from Russia, Europe and the U.S. to let Tehran enrich its uranium under foreign supervision outside the country. The mullahs so far won’t take yes for an answer.

(…) Iran may also welcome the Russian-enriched uranium because its own technology is less advanced. The October 8 edition of the trade journal Nucleonics Week reports that Iran’s low-enriched uranium appears to have „impurities“ that „could cause centrifuges to fail“ if Iran itself tried to enrich uranium to weapons-grade—which would mean above 20% and ideally up to 90%. In this scenario, the West would be decontaminating the uranium for Iran. Along the way, Iranian scientists may also pick up clues on how to do better themselves. (…)

Amnesty International verwies am Samstag in London darauf, dass Teherans Revolutionsgericht in dieser Woche einen ersten von mehr als 100 angeklagten Regimegegnern zum Tode verurteilt habe. Der 37-jährige Mohammad-Reza Ali-Zamani habe laut Urteil in „Feindschaft gegen Gott“ die Ziele terroristischer Vereinigungen unterstützt. Dabei habe er „Propaganda gegen das System“ betrieben, „Heiligkeiten beleidigt“ und das Land illegal verlassen, um sich im Irak mit US-Militärs zu treffen.

Mehrheit der Amerikaner würde Militärschlag gegen das iranische Atomwaffenprogramm befürworten

Mag ihr Präsident auch blind und taub sein, die amerikanische Bevölkerung ist sich der Bedrohung durch das iranische Atomwaffenprogramm offenbar durchaus bewusst:

A Pew Research Center for the People & the Press survey released today found 61 percent of Americans would support a military strike. Twenty-four percent said it is more important to avoid conflict even if that means Iran will end up building nuclear arms.

The survey by the Washington-based group found 63 percent support direct U.S. negotiations with Iran to push the country to abandon its nuclear program. Still, 64 percent said such efforts won’t succeed. The poll was conducted last week, when Iran held talks with the U.S. and other United Nations powers and agreed to widen discussions on the nuclear dispute.
